As somebody else has already said elsewhere, to name this gadget 'pad' would indicate that Apple has no women working in their marketing dept.

Has the word 'pad' really been co-opted?
You mean to say no one grabs a pad and starts to write their soon-to-be famous screen play? (See Moss Hart in his Act One. He was on a beach in Brooklyn)
No one says "Murray, bring your pad in here. We're going to need you to make some sketches of these dresses." ?
Will I embarrass someone or myself, if I go into a Staples and ask the cashiers where the pads are stocked?
I do know enough, if I want an eraser, not to ask for a rubber, but that's because I have British friends who found out the hard way.
Is Dunder Miflin going to discontinue manufacturing notepads, legal pads, sketch pads, graphing pads and watercolor pads?
I KNOW no one asks if they can crash at my pad for awhile anymore, but don't people pad their expense accounts? Don't politicians pad the truth? Don't they get their clothes off the floor and quietly pad their way out of the apartment?? I don't mean just politicians pad quietly out, everybody does, or tries to, it's the only way to get out without somebody asking you to leave your number on the pad on the desk. Right?

Everyone is laughing that Apple has called their new tablet the iPad.
What I find funny is that there are other companies that have named their product the same thing. What is even funnier is that they are now in a legal fight with Apple over who should get the name.

You know more than I then, because my information is that there is ONE company with another ipad. Can you document your assertion?
I can't find it now. It is buried deep in the depths of my google reader now.
Though to be a bit more clear on what I originally posted: I did not mean that more then one company was in legal battle with Apple over the name "iPad" but that there were several companies that used the name before Apple coined it for their new tablet.
ipad is a name that has been used for different things around the world, but I think that the only company that uses the name for anything like apples ipad is this one...and they have filed suit. They are demanding Apple drop the name, but certainly what they really want is a big payday from Apple.
