Ahhhh, I haven't been totally closed out to mormons,as neighbors, busy as I was with being or not being catholic. In contrast to many who leave the catholic church, I left in dismay at what I took to be philosophic yarn knots about nothing. So, figure I'm out of being any kind of convert.
Then there is the matter of their proscriptions, so reminiscent of my early fifties catholic youth and the scrupuloscity.
I last imploded laughing at a USC quarterback spending a year in Sicily on a mission.
However, I figure some mormons can be calm and wise, as opposed to control freaks, or, do I?
dot dot dot -
an old boyfriend who was an atheist of jewish heritage settled in Utah, for the place, not the religion. He seems to have lasted, and I'd be amazed if he has changed - he had an early world view.
@ossobuco,
Amigo, what is going on with you?
@ossobuco,
I'll say one thing for the Mormon 'missionaries.' The educational system in the church is amazing. I met a young man in Salt Lake City who spoke fluent and perfect Latvian. He had just returned from a year's missionary work in Latvia. His name was something like Murphy or Sullivan. And he had been obliged to learn the language before being shipped over. Amazing. There are only something less than three million native Latvian speakers in the entire galaxy (yours truly being one of them), so he really had to put in some effort to make sure he learned it right. And, yes, the young women are mostly pretty stunning. Had a bunch of 'em showing us around the Temple grounds. (You're not allowed inside the Temple itself if you haven't been initiated into the rites, not even if you profess to be a Mormon and go to services every week. I think you have to know a password or the secret handshake or something to be allowed into the Holy of Holies.)
But I know what you mean about the 3.2 beer, Amigo. You can get regular hard liquor, though.
I lived a block south of the morman temple in west los angeles, and participated in the opening, in that - for that period - the rest of us were let in, before the place was sanctified or whatever. I remember nothing of the trouping through, just the lines of walking in bland.. I'm an old catholic, if then and now recalcitrant, and thought, eh.
Sort of like, line up the slaves. That sounds bitter, but I'd been primed re all the obedience in catholicism.
So, amigo, are you slavering?
@dadpad,
Yes, there are alot of VERY beautiful mormon girls, and they are faithful. Get them drunk??? No Way.
This family let Joseph Smith stay at there house. In that house was the family's young daughter. Joseph Smith was married and the prophet so when they caught him ******* there daughter suddenly god spoke; "YOU MUST HAVE MORE THEN ONE WOMAN".
Joseph Smith wrought down what god said and that document is duplicated in the old book of Mormon, but not the new one. Poligamy is only FLDS or Fundimentalist Latter Day Saints.
The Mormon paptise jews when they die to save there souls.
@Merry Andrew,
Yeh, Intill they bought Coca-Cola, then drinking caffiene was ok.
I don't even know if thats true.
@Merry Andrew,
That is why I love Mormons. Because there symbal is a beehive and you could meet a youth that has learned an entire rare language for his will for good will. I got along with them at work because we work hard and we both know it.
Good people, the Mormons.
@Amigo,
do you get the bicycle discount yet?
(and where do they keep all of them in the winter...)

Be grateful you can buy beer and/or liquor at all. Them LDS folks are death on alcohol, tobacco and even caffeine.
Interestingly, I think Mormon Tea is acceptable. Remember that banned and stimulating "dietary suppliment" called ephedra? Now, where do you suppose it comes from?
Mormons are becoming the minority in Utah. That is vary sad to me. I like the Mormons. They are great people.

Nothing to be sad about. Here in Hawaii the Hawaiians are a minority. The Mormons never owned the state; they just happened to be the first Anglos to settle there. But what about the Native Americans and Mexicans, both of whom were there first. Are you sad that they're distinct minorities, too?

that disgusts me more each time I hear about it
@Merry Andrew,
I never lived with those people. But yes.
