My New Healthcare Plan

While your scenario is not unheard of, and people say they will commit a crime for prison healthcare, most just end up broke and on welfare with medicaid. A friend of mine is writing an article called from Middle Class to Medicaid. She has been following the stories of a group of people who were once productive members of society and were firmly considered middle class, until they or a close family member became seriously ill. Many of these people had insurance, but they still ended up bankrupt. They couldn't continue to hold on to assets or take in much income because it all went to paying medical bills, so they sunk into poverty and ended up on government assistance. Why some Americans think this is acceptable I will never understand.

I've been devoting my time and energy to groups that actually might make a difference. It's the reason I avoid the bulk of the healthcare threads here. I usually respond to Bear because we are in the same sinking ship. I feel his pain.

Look, if you're willing to break the law in order to get health care, why not try and commit a SUCCESSFUL robbery and then go live in some other country, with plenty of actual cash to pay your costs?

If you're going to go to jail anyway, might as well try and stay out first.

Invite all your friends to a bar near that bank for a going away party on a day it snows.
Leave tracks from the bank to the bar.
Buy rounds for your friends until the money is gone or the FBI arrives.

Not only will you get free health care but everyone will remember you after you are gone.

I don't plan on dying there, just getting healthy and fit (they have a weight room)

as for packing, there is stuff I would want to send off for safekeeping, before they started divvying up my things amongst themselves.

It's nice that some people here think we should try for a successful bank robbery, but the statistics of such enterprises are bleak.

Also, one should take care, as Shewolf pointed out, to be convicted in an area where the most benefits will be received.
It's complicated. Of course. This modern life sucks.

A conviction for bank robbery under Federal law would place you in the Federal system and that would let those bastards pick and choose where to house you.

If you live in a state which has a solid penal system then it would be better to rob several liquor stores without using a gun, that way you will stay in that State's system, although given the overcrowding in places like New York, you might be sent to Ohio or, yipes, Montana, to serve out your sentence. (Stop laughing back there in the back. The word penal has nothing to do with Viagra.)

One other thing to consider: It is likely, given the advanced age of some of us, that we would become eligible for release sooner than we would like (like before we die) so, once in prison it will be very important to walk the line between complacency (so we can use the library) and remorselessness (****, yes, I'd do it again.) so that those unfeeling bean counters don't put us on parole.

great advice except for the liquor store part. Part of the fun of my plan... a BIG part is getting to shoot some asshole I don't like.

the other part of course is knowing that the very taxpayers who would rather watch people die on the street than give an inch on healthcare would be footing the bill for not only my healthcare but my food, recreation, clothing, housing, etc. that's a certain measure or satisfaction. :0)

given the family history, even on our death bed the Throbber family men no matter their age have never required viagra or a penis extension. Our kidneys work pretty well right up to the end as well. You have probably confused that with our livers ;0)
