Epic Songs in great Battle Scenes or Trailers?

Reply Sat 9 Jan, 2010 01:46 pm
Hey everyone, just looking for some seriously epic songs, whether they're rock or choral or whatever, just anything that sounds amazingly epic. If you have any songs that come to mind, or know where I might be able to find these songs, thanks a lot. Can't wait to see your input.

I've none to add yet as I stumbled over to youtube to look at some memorable battle scenes and got caught up in looking at clips of Kurasawa's Ran..
which of course hadn't any epic songs as such.

@ossobuco,
Here though is the theme from The Magnificent Seven, a takeoff on Kurasawa's Seven Samurai -

I'll have to look specifically for what music was going on in the battle scenes..

Ride of the Valkyries in the helicopter scene in Apocalypse Now -- the music starts about 5 minutes into this clip.

The scene in Forrest Gump where they're in Vietnam and the Jimi Hendrix version of All Along the Watchtower is playing is great.

@Philis,
The movie was a disappointment but the sound track is great.

@plainoldme,
Why did you find last of the mohicians a disappointment?

My dad was a movie fan, lots of movies he saw, he bought the album. We had everything from Mary Poppins to "A man and a woman".

I saw most of these too:
sound of music
all the sean connery james bond movies (Bond. James Bond)
west side story
hard days night (beatles)
midnight cowboy
oklahoma
south pacific
my fair lady
doctor zhivago
lawrence of arabia (love)
the music man
sound of music (Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)
peter and the wolf (a favorite)
the music man
all the kids Disney movies
HELP (beatles)
the jungle book
romeo and juliet (w/oliver hussey)

I can't think of anymore

@Philis,
For one thing, the makers didn't bother to write a new script but simply used the original which, as the Boston Globe reviewer said, showed they had nothing new to add to the material.

It's hard to imagine that the film is 18 years old! I saw it with my daughter, who had to have been 14 at the time. We went to the movie theatre in Harvard Square and the people behind talked at length about someone we knew! That's not why we were disappointed . . . the people said nothing negative about our friend.

We just felt it a colossal waste of an evening.

@plainoldme,
I like the mohicians because the scene in the beginning where the 3 of them are running through the woods reminds me of camping and running thru the wooods as a girl in the catskills.

@Philis,
Although I have lived in Massachusetts for years, I haven't reached the Catskills yet. I understand that a lot of that movie was shot in the South, I think North Carolina is what the article said.

Nothing has ever moved me as much as Barber's Adagio For Strings from the soundtrack of Platoon.
Every time I hear it I see the death of William Defoe and the end of the innocence for a whole generation

@panzade,
One of my favorites!!!

Have you watched the film "Tropic Thunder", lots of parodies of 80's Vietnam flick scenes...that one included.

-------

Pirates of the Caribbean - Underwater March....it's a slow piece, but around the 3:00 min mark it gets really powerful.

@plainoldme,
Yes, it was filmed in NC. But you could have fooled me, it looks like upstate NY.
