I'm sorry your Dad did that, Dys. What a jerk.
Families... we don't get to pick 'em, but even if we could we'd just end up with different issues.
Get the watch and enjoy remembering your grandfather. You can't change your Dad, you can only accept that that is who he is and his behavior has nothing to do with who you are.
If this is the only incident that has caused a rift between Dys and his dad, then I think folks are being unreasonably unfair to label his dad as they have.
We are reading about one incident. That does not make the man a beast to be scorned and mocked. That makes a man who made a bad and foolish decision.
I totally agree that Dys should have the watch and it is far, far overdue. I do not agree that his father should carry the mark of Satan forever because he was being foolish, insensitive, greedy and jealous.
We can never foregive ourselves for our mistakes if we are unwilling to forgive others.
@Green Witch,
And that sounds like "He can have it over my dead body".

he could have easily said no
mebbe now you'll have the watch, and if your kid ever finds you, you can pass it on

And be sure to thank him for having it cleaned and adjusted.
@Green Witch,
Jewish guilt is good....Green Witch....sounds like your one Jew that dont believe the Torah says Son of God in there at Daniel 3v25 and still cant believe in Jesus
@roger,
Who are you talking to
roger? There's no one in that post above you. Are you seeing demons or ghosts?
@dyslexia,
Hi
Dyslexia... any updates on your watch watch?
@tsarstepan,
Just a polite goodbye to good old BorntoWorship.
well, all very interesting, my grandfathers watch came and along with it a surprise. In the box that the watch was in was another quite old pocket watch I was not aware of. turns out my father had not only kept the watch my grandfather had left me but also the pocket watch that was my grandfather's fathers watch. So my grandfathers watch (gold-open face-circa 1910) and my great grandfathers watch (silver-open face-circa 1860) came with it.
@dyslexia,
That's good to hear, Dys. (I'd have said, "about time" but didn't want to push it.)
@dyslexia,
I'm really glad to hear this wonderful news
dys!
Could you photograph the watches so we can revel in your familial
coup de fierté?

That's proof of good karma coming to roost... I think.
@tsarstepan,

@dyslexia,
I wish you could see the grin on my face, Dys.
@Tai Chi,
In that case, I won't ask if they still make batteries for them.
