@msolga,
I bought tickets today to see Jeff Waynes War Of The Worlds. It's on this Mon, one show only. Tickets cost €120 for 2, so it had better be good.
Anyway the reason I mention it is, it stars a compatriot of your, guess who?

JASON DONOVAN.

Hurrah, YES he's still going strong.
I'm looking forward to it.

@eurocelticyankee,
(I think?) that's H G Wells' War Of The Worlds, set to music, euro?
(pardon my ignorance here.)
Anyway, that is a LOT of money to pay for tickets. So I'd better be good, hey?
Please report back & tell us how it went.
Ah, Jason Donovan. In a starring role. That's interesting. He seems to have been out of the loop for years.

ps .. is there something other than "euro" you'd prefer to be called? (eurocelticyankee being such a mouthful & all. It's gonna get shortened by people like me all the time! )
And no one exactly appreciates being named after anyone's currency, right? Wink

I've posted a helluva lot of REM's music here, but I don't think I've posted this one yet.
From way back & in good old B & W, too!
Who wrote Wichita Lineman? I'm trying to remember ...

@msolga,
First R.E.M. song I ever heard - ran out and bought the single (it took a while to figure out who it was, I though it sounded a bit like Spy Vs Spy <see below> - the people in the record store looked blankly at me. Ah Canberra before the Jays.

@hingehead,
Trying to remember what my first REM experience was ....
So long ago, I'm not sure any more.
Possibly from one of their early CDs, like Document, borrowed from a friend.
Gosh they were addictive!
Played them to death!
(Went to see them at The Myer Music Bowl on a brilliant balmy summer evening, "sometime" in the mid-90s.(not sure about dates, either Confused ). Wonderful concert! )

Hey, I like Spy V Spy!
Anymore where that came from?

The first Dire Straits track I ever heard, many, many years ago. Loved it. What a find!
This obscure little group from London who made great music. Smile

@msolga,
I had a girfriend who spent a year in the US as an exchange student in 1985 . She loved early REM - use to rave about a cover they did of Superman by another indie band. I'd never even been tempted to find out that that Document was their fifth album. I just liked that one song you posted.

Weird that there is so little Spy's stuff on youtube, below is the only other track I could find - shocked that no-one has posted 'Sally-Anne' or 'Give Us Something'. They did a nice line in agit prop power trio for the first two albums, then I lost interest. Good live - 'Harry's reasons' has been a fave since seeing them do it live.

@hingehead,
Hi hinge

REM's early music is really good ... I think I still have all those pre-mega famous CDs.
But then (as you may have gathered) I was huge fan.
I loved their unassuming attitude, their politics & the fact that they weren't "up themselves", as we say in Oz. But best of all, the music!
Their later CDs (post Out of Time & Automatic for the People were a bit patchy, but I forgive them. Smile

I don't know much about Spy Vs Spy & will check out the tracks you mentioned. Enjoyed Injustice. Thanks!

I've just finished watching The Edge Of Darkness (1985 BBC miniseries) ..... I loved it at the time & was quite excited to find that it had been (finally!) released on DVD.
Anyway, here's the theme music from the series.
I have a feeling it'll be stuck in my head for a few days ...

Why remake something as perfect as the original Edge of Darkness?
And why set in in the US?
The BBC series was inspired by fears about the future of the nuclear industry in Thatcher's Britain.
I just can't imagine this story in another setting without it becoming a completely different story.
If you're interested, here's a trailer from the BBC's version:

Ahem, if you'll pardon me.....
Do you listen to Blasmusik, Ms.O? This kind of
stuff really warms me up on these cold winter nights we're having.

My link takes you to a particularly pretty number.

Just asking.....

No, I confess, I haven't listened to Blasmusik before.
But I am about to do so now.
A first! Smile
