hi im lyn and i just want to ask if that allelopathy thing--(plants produce certain biochemicals that influence the growth and development of other organisms) would the plants still produce those certain biochemicals if that plant is all alone..i mean it has no competition...

Do you mean would it have not evolved that way without other plants, or do you mean would it spontaneously stop producing those chemicals if it were removed from contact with other plants?

You have a chicken-and-egg problem, here.

Did the plants start producing those to promote the growth of other organisms, or did the other organisms adapt to what's available from the plant?
