HERE I GO AGAIN . . . . ITs ALL SO SIMPLE . . . .

Being retired, I have a lot of free time.
I watched Oprah today.
Her show began with an interview of the genuinely brave, heroic police
who shot Major Malfunction at Ft. Hood.
When he was no longer surrounded by helpless, unarmed humanity,
but was confronted by armed resistance: the danger that he constituted was OVER.

Then Oprah went on to interview a very unfortunate woman
who 'd agreed to help her friend and boss to put her chimp
back into his cage. (No one had any means of self defense.)

The chimp tore off her fingers and her thumbs; both hands.
He tore off most of her scalp. He tore off her mouth; jaw torn off.
He tore out her eyes. He tore off her face.
She survived. Apparently she will live a normal length of time in that condition.
Her friend called 911 and explained the situation. Police arrived. THAY, had guns.

Thay shot n killed the rampaging chimp: no more trouble.

The moral of the story is:
undefended humanity -- unarmed humanity -- can unexpectedly become victims of violence,
with most grave and permanent results.

ARMED humanity ofen can end a dangerous threat, remaining intact.

The same thing keeps happening, in endless variation on a theme.

A word to the wise is sufficient.
Do your friends a favor: spread the word:
Guns are health insurance.

Maybe she needed the cash.
As a general rule, most of the time,
chimps are not malicious.
(Its not like a venomous snake.)

I wonder what Jane Goodall woud say.

THAT is total bullshit. When I worked in Africa, there were stories from all over the jungke countries about wild chimps just mauling people and kids . An adult male chimp goes about 200lb and can run faster than any olympic sprinter. They have canids like a wolf and can tear you up in very short time. Africans in the areas frequented by great apes (and many monlkeys) are deathly afraid of
1Hippos
2mambas
3Chimps.

I saw a promo that said that she was going
to interview Police Sgt. Kimberley Munley,
who shot the malfunctioning major,
and was wounded in an exchange of gunfire.

I thought that she was very brave.
I wanted to know what she had to say.

U r better informed about that than most folks.
The common perception in America is that chimps r peaceful.
Very recently, I heard that thay spontaneously organize themselves
(the male ones) into raiding parties and go to areas dominated
by other groups of chimps, grab one, pin him down to the ground
and disarticulate him, for no apparent reason.

Pictures of this were shown on the National Geographic Channel.

I do not believe that the victim knew that; most likely not his owner, either.

P.S.: What the hell is a mamba?

@djjd62,
yeh, there are basically 2 mamba species with some local variants. The black mamba is a big neurotxin snake that is fond of living in houses and sheds. It can be agressive. The green mamba is a fast litt;e guy thats more arboreal and can skoot across tree limbs like a sprinter. They are in the similar group as cobras except without the hoods. They have small rear fangs and deliver a almost always fatal dose of venom. Our guys used to sweep the field trucks and rigs of all snakes each morning. Wed always have an sbundance of snakes that would wrap themselves around the engine blocks or radiator cages.

That story about the woman with the chimp that went berserk and ripped off the other ladies face is not really an uncommon thing where these animals arent handled like the wild animals they always remain.

I wonder what Jane Goodall woud have said.
Maybe she 'd have said: "stay away from him."
I attended a lecture of hers in Manhattan with some friends
at a Barnes & Nobel book store.

Comment on the temperament of gorillas,
relative to the anti-human aggression of the chimps ?
