@Gala,
But even when the phones are on buzz mode, I still can hear it rattle and buzz. It should work if the person your fleeing from isn't too astute or is slightly preoccupied. Smile

@tsarstepan,
Yeah, but even if the person she wants to get away from doesn't hear anything they're not going to analyze it. They'll probably just think : "Gee, I didn't hear that" and not question it.

When I want to get away from someone, I just double over and say in a pained voice.

"Oh God, I'm going to have more diarrhea."

believe me, they'll let you leave.

You look them straight in the eye and say "I'd love to stay and talk, but I've got an appointment across town in ten minutes.

Why do you think a cell phone is going to rescue you from another person/

@sullyfish6,
Because if I'm having an unplanned/spontaneous chat with someone and their phone rings I'm not going to hang ariound and listen to their conversation.

If I were talking with someone and their phone rang, I expect them to NOT to answer it. That's rude.

But then again, I am from the generation that has more manners than some.
I find this obsession with mobile phones to be quite disturbing to personal relationships.

@sullyfish6,
No body asked you this. Just answer the question or pass it along. I asked a question because i want an answer pertaining to the question.

@sullyfish6,
I don't think previous generations had more manners... they just have different manners. Some things that are considered quite rude now were perfectly acceptable 50 years ago.

Somehow a discussion about which way to blow someone off is more "polite" amuses me.

Another one that works really well is to just state that you have a lot of flatulence today and it smells like rotten eggs.
