How far is it from most southerly point to most northerly point in Japan?

I have no idea if my professor wants me to count Okinawa and those islands down there. I'm guessing around 2400 miles.

@brokencdplayer,
Could you elaborate on the assignment? If its a geographic question limited too the mainland island of Honshu then don't count the outlying smaller islands. If there are no limitations included in the instructions then include the literal tip of the northern most island to the southern most island.
