I'm taking a trip with cousins. We differ on politics. I'm bringing a few cds.

Um, how long is this road trip? Any chance you have earphones? That way they get a break from your choice of music and you get a break from their conversation -- if, at any point, either or both of you need a break without appearing rude. (I would need to get "away" even if I couldn't go anywhere after a few days of constant company.)

@Tai Chi,
Road trip rule #1: driver picks the music.

Bring your own ipod or cd player with headphones.

I agree in principle but disagree in practicality, with meself and lady Diane, the co-pilot manages the cd's. (I'm most often the co-pilot)

@dyslexia,
Co-pilot may, in an emergency, touch the c.d. Co-pilot may not select c.d.

Seriously.

@OmSigDAVID,
I remain not sure.

In any case, none of it relates to my enthusiasms of the moment.

@ossobuco,
Ah, well, the rv doesn't have a cd player.
So...

I can't drive them crazy by cd..
We'll see. I'll annoy them by being me...

@ossobuco,
I live in quiet, mostly.

I will rare up and stab the odd this or that if I hear music I don't like.

I am getting that they deal with just the radio. That's ok, however lame-0.

But that's OK for a little bit, yes, osso?

Local radio give you a sense of where you are.

The main thing, surely, is the company of the folk you're sharing the trip with?

@ossobuco,
If you haven't noticed, the beast I call Old Reliable sports a cassette player. All modern, too. It has autoreverse and something called Dolby. If I had an audio cassette, I could check it all out, and see what it does.

@roger,
if it's like most old cassette players, what it does best is eat tapes...

@ehBeth,
When my best friend and myself went on long car trips (New York City to Pittsburgh or New York City to Boston), I always drove. We would alternate between our CD collections.

On the rarer short errand trips (renting a truck for the odd moving errand), I would completely monopolize the radio. It worked out that way because she paid for the rental vehicles in both cases.

I was sorely disappointed upon re-reading to find an "r" in that last word. Sorely.

@tsarstepan,
Laughs re your car trips, Tsar.

I liked cds to wend my way from very north california to very south. But.. I'm impatient re local radio. I like spanish stations, but they aren't all so available either. An off ramp is how I got to know the Salinas Wall Mart. You know me, I'm no WalMart Fan. There was a Starbucks and a Wall mart at the offramp. So I double fucked myself, a few cds and a cup of burnt coffee.
