The perfect definition of god:

When we define a word we use other words to describe it, thereby achieving an understanding of what is meant when that word is used.

The word of the day is "GOD", and for this definition everyone will have to participate. Whatever you think "GOD" is, pour it into this thread. Then, if enough people participate, we may get alot of words. The thing is, I think the number of other words needed to define the singel word "GOD" is infinite. Nontheless, here we go:

"GOD":

Me, you, a puppy, sandpaper, water, alcohol, clouds, angry ants, dirty laundry, metaphysic imagery, worm, jesus, unknown parasites in another galaxy, tv dinners, sunlight, asfalt, schitzophrenia, the realization that I cannot do this alone, cigarettes, a good night's sleep, if we are going to do this I don't think any single person in the world can refrain from participating, cake, humor, murder, cats, fields of growing food, there is no end to this definition, waves in anything, lines in a letter, san fransisco, the bottom of the sea, does anyone see where this leads already, please feel free to add your two cents

To children and many adult fundamentalists god has an objective reality, a big giant head (ala "The Third Rock from the Sun")that exists inside a black hole somewhere in the middle of the milky way. To other more sophisticated people god signifies a subjective perception of which nothing can be said, on the one hand, but shapes our identities and our attitudes toward nature on the other hand.

@coluber2001,
I think that's pretty much what Cyracuz said. He just likes to use to use more words.

@Merry Andrew,
Hehe.. perhaps you are right Andrew.
But the problem with this particular definition is that whatever you add to it, it will become part of the very thing you are trying to define. So once you start, it never really ends.

How did you decide that any one of these so-called descriptions is true??
Your misunderstanding of 'truth' is difficult to understand.

I see, your understanding of 'truth' is that it is poetic license ???
Lots of Luck with that nonsensical belief.

So are we making God the infinite set of all objects in the universe? Not only that but also relational properties, mental states, feelings, etc.? Would that not make God one big contradiction? I fail to see how that is a perfect definition of God; unless of course I am missing something.

@Ding an Sich,
You are probably right about that.

If I recall correctly, the idea behind this thread was that if you are going to define god with words you will always need one more word.
The contents of the concept god can perhaps not be expressed verbally...

I agree with you on this. We can coninuously define our definition in a sense. But can we also not do this with other words as well? Take the word 'time' for example. We can define it as "the succession of objects"; but then we must define further what we mean by 'succession' and 'objects'. In fact the whole process could very well go on ad infinitum, if we allow such a silly notion. What we are doing with the word 'God' can be done to any word, if we allow the definitions to continue for an indefinite period of time.

This can be done with any concept.
