Yup, Christmas advertising in September! Mad

I heard it on AM radio, listening to a local station (CKNW), and the ad was for Future Shop.

Now, they didn't use the "C" word, as they were much too subtle for that, but rather the "H" (Holiday) word.

The ad was pushing the use of their gift cards for "holiday shopping". Seeing that Future Shop is mainly an electronics store, I doubt they were talking about such upcoming holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Rememberance Day.

"Here's an iPod to each one of you nice kiddies for your wonderful costumes."

Well, to the best of my recollection, this is the earliest Christmas ad I've heard to date. I'm not talking about the phony "Christmas-in-July" stuff, but a genuine ad.

Have you heard or seen anything lately that would indicate that "Christmas-is-sooner-than-you-think"?

This is not new. I used to see Jim Nabors Christmas album adverts on UHF stations immediately after Labor Day 35 years ago.

Once I saw him singing "Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer" at 4AM I knew Christmas Season had arrived.

@Reyn,
a few years ago those Staples ads started using the christmas tune "It's the most wonderful time of the year" for its "back to school" campaign

the first time i heard it i wasn't watching the tv and i almost died, thinking somebody had started christmas in august

@Reyn,
Come on now!

The name of the store is "Future Shop". It seems to me that advertising for Christmas in September is appropriate.

Good advice, I'd say.

@George,
Though I actually meant 2010 - which certainly is a better advice. (If I'd start eating them now, I wouldn't like any from October onwards ... besides, perhaps, one, three, five, fourteen special kinds of cookies which I can eat any time ...)
