What songs provoke the most emotion in you and why?

A few of mine are:

1.)Dead or Alive-Bon Jovi/Not sure, just gets me pumped up!

2.)Every Rose Has It's Thorn-Poison/reminds me of my triumphs, and failures in the game of love.

Radiohead-True Love Waits-a very simple and sad song
Tool-Ticks & Leeches- It manages to be an extremely angry piece without turning into crap. Also, the drum work by Danny Carey is insane.

Overall, I'd say the Blues. BB King, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy. Something about their voices, the notes they play, it all works together and makes me want to drink and stand up and talk back to them whether I'm seeing them live or listening to them on record.

Impossible Dream

I was standing in a crowd on the first few hours of the Philippines EDSA II revolution. There was less than 500 of us gathered. A Congressman had the courage to be among the first to openly fight with then President Estrada asking him to step down. He sang this song. At that point of the revolution it was really an impossible dream. In less than a week it has become a reality.

"The Impossible Dream" does create goose bumps up and down my spine...
When 911 had it's tribute to all the rescue workers and families of the victims...James Taylor came out and sang "Fire and Rain"....(I've seen fire and I've seen rain,
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end,
I've seen lonley days when I could not find a friend,
but I always thought that I'd see you again.)...stuff like that moves me.

Though I'm not religious there are lots of old religious songs that are thrilling (somebody once said the best thing about Christianity was its music).

I also get emotionally involved with bagpipe music.

Most songs by John Farnham. His voice sends shivers down my spine.

The ultimate "moist eyes" song for me is very corny indeed: Two Little Boys by Rolf Harris.

Barber's "Adagio for Strings"

Gershwin "I loves you Porgy" (Billy Holliday version)

Air "You make it easy"

...and so many others!

There's a song by Steve and Annie Chapman called "Goodnite Kiss" that especially touches me now. It's about children growing up - and we just had our empty nest this fall.

Too many....

"Keep Me in Your Heart" - Warren Zevon
"Stranger to HImself" - Paddy Keenan version
"Share the Same Stage" - John Cody
"Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" - Gorecki

I'll think of more, I'm sure...

"She Moved Through the Fair" - almost any version, it's that sort of song....one of the more interesting versions is by Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet though.

If i knew why certain songs can pull so much emotion out of me i don't think i would like them anymore Very Happy . For me a cappella is very powerful, Violins, WOW! (i need to marry a Violinist), Celtic music rocks, for singers, Sam Cooke! there are so many great songs he sang. Beethovon and Mozart of course. The songs Stand by me and Amazing Grace can bring a tear to my eye every time (unless they are tacked onto some crappy movie or TV show). For pure energy, the original theme to the show Mission Impossible would have me jumping off the fireplace mantel and crawling under the table (I still do if nobodys watching Laughing )

This might sound crazy, and I'm almost afraid to admit it, but the theme song from Mission Impossible fills me with such enormous energy that I sometimes find myself jumping off my fireplace and crawling under the table. Can you believe it! Well, I'm sure I'm the only person on the planet who acts in such a crazy manner when that song is played.

(I'm glad I finally got that off my chest.)
