@djjd62,
yuck.

When I was in the hospital (maternity ward) the food was pretty good. Actually immediately after giving birth, they give you this incredible breakfast - no matter the time of day - I got mine for my first at about midnight. I was so hungry I ate every bite. I even drank the milk and I detest milk.

My brother is a nurse and he told me that the maternity ward gets the best quality food - must be a big money maker or something for the hospital - he was told that the generic orange juice was for the regular floors and the Minute Maid or whatever name brand orange juice was reserved for the maternity floor.

@littlek,
I worked my way through high school and university at St. John's in Santa Monica back in the late fifties, early sixties. They had wonderful food.. not that I was ever a patient, but the employee/visitor cafe was great - or so I thought at the time. A friend was a "tray girl" and said the patients got the same food, unless they had special diets.

I think 90% of the world would be happy to find any of those meals on their table. Even if they are heavy on the carbs and light on the greens, they have come a long way from the days of red jello, canned baked beans and chopped-up hot dogs (the meal my mother was served after giving birth to me). I think hospital food has greatly improved over the last 20 years. I've eaten in the St. Jude cafeteria, it was actually very good with a huge salad bar and the kids love the "make your own cupcake'' feature. We have a Catholic charity hospital in my city that offers cheap meals and their cafeteria is always packed with local residents that have no other reason to be at the hospital other than to buy a $2 turkey sandwich and eat at the .99 cents a pound salad bar.

This lovely combination of canned spaghetti and greasy bacon, accompanied by canned prunes in syrup, Rice Bubbles and chewy toast. There was no other choice. Happy to be home !

@djjd62,
This photo blog is an intriguing quirk fest. I wonder what's the creative impetus behind this blog. What kind of incident or hospital stay was the publisher's muse?

@djjd62,
I was thinking he or she spent a lot of time in the hospital (for him or herself or a friend or relative) up until the point of hospital food expertise.

Or perhaps he or she works/ed at a hospital?

Rice bubbles [aka Rice Krispies here in the United States] are sold in Australia... http://www.kellogg.com.au/ricebubbles/
