I don't usually barf at an edgar song but Billy Vaughn's OBS??...come on....pure Velveeta.
I now sentence you to come up with an exciting version of this bluegrass classic
I think you are off the mark here. Different artists doing the same song should not be carbon copies. What's the sense of making every version of it sound like every version of it?
you're wayyyy off the mark edgar...It wasn't my intent to look for carbon copies...but I DO look for a little passion...especially in an exciting bluegrass concertstuck...in the end...can we agree on this?
One man's passion is another man's Velveeta..I'm sure you scratched your head about some of my choices buddy
Oh, of course. I recall the time I said I don't like the Beach Boys. You were not on my side in that one, either. My point is, there is room for every interpretation of a song, if well done. To me, Beach Boys are Velveta. But I have long liked several Billy Vaughn recordings.
I have only recently come to regard this as one of my favorite songs and I think I do because of the juxtaposition of the hopeful melody and sad words; the narrator is appararently dying after being wounded in war.
It just touches me.
I listen to it daily - if not several times daily.- and I will continue to do so until this war is over to remind me that these are real people with real dreams who are dying.
I think it's a great and timeless song (as it seems that war will always be with us).
DAVID GRAY LYRICS
"The One I Love"
Gonna close my eyes
Girl and watch you go
Running through this life darling
Like a field of snow
As the tracer glides
In its graceful arc
Send a little prayer out to ya
'cross the falling dark
Tell the repo man
And the stars above
You're the one I love
Perfect summers night
Not a wind that breathes
Just the bullets whispering gentle
'mongst the new green leaves
There's things I might have said
Only wish I could
Now I'm leaking life faster
Then I'm leaking blood
Tell the repo man
And the stars above
You're the one I love
You're the one I love
The one I love
Don't see Elysium
Don't see no fiery hell
Just the lights up bright baby
In the bay hotel
Next wave coming in
Like an ocean roar
Won't you take my hand darling
On that old dancefloor
We can twist and shout
Do the turtle dove
And you're the one I love
You're the one I love
The one I love
We don't have to agree about everything to get along. Letty does not like my do wop and Dylan-with-harmonica songs, but we still get along very well.
of course not...but I was just giving an opinion about one tune in one genre ...not a band or a classification of music...I noticed you told letty several time that you didn't care for a certain version of a song....seems it's ok for you to do it , but I can't post a preference for a version of a song?

still my bud...just trying to understand
Didn't see this response earlier, panz. I thought the whole episode was over.
I don't mind if somebody does not care for a song I like. My first impression of your original post, your words seemed a bit extreme to me. Perhaps I over reacted. Still, I thought we had already agreed to let it go.
