In California? I didn't go to Goodwill in LA, or even in northern california, using either Salvation Army (fabulous buys in their Santa Monica store "better" section. Setanta set me somewhat against them, knowing as he did more how they work.) Luckily, I didn't know all that when I loved the store.
I also used to go to small thrifts, such as ones run by Hospital related volunteers - all that was in the Los Angeles area too.
