The Great Depression was already taken, so I thought we could call it The Great Unraveling. What do you think we should call this economic situation we are in?
I'd go for that - Global Bankruptcy is pretty accurate.

I like Boomerang's train of thought. As much as I disliked Bush Co. this collapse is bigger than his drunkin' frat boy economics. Both Reagan and Clinton share some of the blame, but we the consumer and our financial institutions are the biggest culprits.
I think it could be referred to as:
The Great Capitalist Hangover of the 21st Century
Yeah, I agree that Bush is not the root cause. He's just the one who stepped on the gas in the car that had, up until then, been merely pointed towards the edge of the cliff, in neutral, with a strong wind.

It seems to me that y'all may be jumping the gun a bit.
We don't know if this depression is going to be as great as the last one. It could be that this one is a so-so depression, or even a pretty lousy depression.
So I change my vote to "The Overrated Depression" (and keep my fingers crossed).

humphrey, it's an older name so it shouldn't interfere with too many people on the street
it's got a good sound, and it's adaptable, "this humphrey is really getting me down", my 401k was humphried beyond belief" stuff like that

Hmmm... seems like the bank fiasco contributed in a big way to this, so I'd probably go with something like:
The Bank Bailout Abomination
