Not sure if this will help or not, but I just explored my email settings.
Go to Tools at the upper left hand corner of your email screen.
Click on Options
On the pane that opens up select the folder heading Spelling
At the top of that it says settings
You may need to tick "Always check spelling before sending"
And, if you like "Suggest alternatives to misspelled words"
My spell check was also not on.
You made me learn something!
