Scroll down the page slowly and follow the instructions below doing the math in your head as fast as you can and say the answers out loud, the goal is to get the answer to each question as quickly as you can.
What is:
2+2?
4+4?
8+8?
16+16?
Quick! Pick a number between 12 and 5.
Got it?
Now scroll down...
The number you picked was 7, right?
No. It wasn't.
What's the catch?
@sullyfish6,
No catch, most people just pick that when in the right mindset (which the previous questions try to create).
@Robert Gentel,
I am almost afraid to ask....what is the "right mindset"?
@TTH,
The adding numbers together exercise grooms the thinking process so that when you see the 12 and 5 the brain wants to add the 2 and 5 together to get 7.
I chose 6.
Saw that the numbers were backwards (Choose a number between 12 and 5 rather than 5 and 12) and automatically divided 12 in half, paused and thought "Yeah, that's between because the lower number is five and then scrolled to the answer.
I think I did that because I had been adding same numbers, (verbalized in my head as 2 times 2, 2 times 4, 2 times 8...) so when asked to choose a number "between" and saw the 12, I automatically divided it by 2.
@Butrflynet,
There are also 7 numbers to choose from.
