Adds, I've still some albums, including Eno's Ambiance, or whatever the name was. I had a latin jazz buying period, still have most of the albums, but it would be fun to have a 'tape' of my own favorites.

@Robert Gentel,

I'm stopping at Precious Friend by Holly Near & Ronnie Gilbert because I liked that one enough to look for it to add to my library.
Holly and Ronnie have an amazing harmony together. You should check out some of their other duets.
This one isn't on mixit, but here's the video:

@ehBeth,
I liked #4 and had a hell of a time finding it. It's listed as "That lucky old sun" but it's actually "Kiss of Fire", finally found it and bought the mp3 on Amazon.
...i'm too much of a music junkie, so thematic approach it is. for tonight, i chose fierce funk...and (in my head) related items....eee, ok, now i have to figure out how to post it.
Dunno, I never saw the resemblance myself. Kiss of Fire was a nice discovery from this thread, thanks for that version.

@dagmaraka,
Which one was #4 for you? One of the early ones isn't playing for me so I'm not sure which one you are talking about (you can click "menu" when it's playing to get a playlist to select from).
(....two brazillians in my life...perhaps that's why :-) )

I was amazed at the depth of music available.
Welcome the wonderful world of Web 2.0 mashups!
Mixwit uses a couple of audio search engines already on the web (my favourite www.skreemr.com) so the reason there is music available is because you have the entire web (minus p2p/torrent sites) at your disposal. Don't count the tape working forever. And strictly speaking the audio isn't always legally available from the web.

I'm deeply disappointed there's no skin for a TDK AD-90 - but I guess I could go scan one - I have about 1500.....
until recently, most people relied on their own judgment when it came to sound. Now, though, an increasing number are hiring personal music stylists to pick out tunes for their homes just as they might hire an interior decorator to select furnishings.
While Muzak has for decades created what it calls “audio architecture” for commercial environments, it is just in the last five years that a handful of music consultants, mostly in New York and London, have begun to specialize in creating custom domestic soundtracks. From Aspen lodges to bungalows in Belize, they are compiling playlists to match their clients’ décor.
let's get our mixed tapes out there!

Roberta mentioned she went to a Bette Midler concert and was a fan of hers so I made a mix tape for her. I'll post it on her surgery thread too.

@Butrflynet,
Love that you love Brian Eno....soooo under appreciated! I'll supply a tape tomorrow - this looks like great fun!
We regret to announce that Mixwit will cease to exist at the end of the year. The website and profiles will be turned off around Dec 21st Dec 27th and all embedded widgets will stop playing before the end of December.
We’ve put a year of work into Mixwit so this choice wasn’t taken lightly. I won’t go into the details of our situation but state simply that we boldly marched into in a position best described as “between rock and a hard place.” We’re very grateful to be have been part of the mixtape revival of ‘08 and are satisfied to be able to to bow out while things are still good.
You guys are all amazing. It’s clear that all of you put a ton of time and effort into your mixes. For me personally, I was looking forward to all of the designs people created for their tapes. There was a lot of basic tapes and many lovely photos, but the designs and artwork - WOW!
We’re very sorry that this has to end. We’re going to try to figure out some way to archive the artwork and playlists, if for nothing at least historic value. As for now, everything needs to be shut down by the end of the year just to make sure we’ve got a clean start for 2009.
We’ll return early next year with a new company and new toys. Until then, enjoy the holidays and please take good care of yourselves, your families, and your friends =)
Mixtape essentially used mp3 results from www.skreemr.com and played them in a flash mp3 player, so with this you can use the mp3 urls (labeled "file" in the skreemr results) and post them here.
If you haven't seen their blog tonight, there's a note about them possibly giving all the code to the Open Tape project. Is that anything you can make use of?
Quote:
Mike and I have been talking about donating the source code to the OpenTape project. We’ll email users info on where they’ll be able to find their stuff before the end of the year.
I'd checked it out earlier today but settled on this simple flash mp3 player for the bbcode.
We'll be integrating with last.fm and other sites for music but don't really want to be in the middle of that copyright mess and mixtapes are not doing to well legally these days.

Hey everyone:
This thread reminds me of a blog you might enjoy called "Casette from My Ex," in which writers review that one tape they've held onto for years and the fleeting relationship that spawned it. From the creators of Found.
