@OmSigDAVID,
He'll be 26 the day after Thanksgiving. He functions at around 13. Strangely, he can do basic math in his head faster than many, especially when it comes to money.

@squinney,
I 'm sorry, Squinney.
Is there a diagnosis for the reason
that he functions at around 13 ?

@OmSigDAVID,
Possible FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) although his Mom denies that. I'll let Bear say more if he shooses to. We've had full custody since '97. Even prior to that most of the responsibility fell to Bear (and then me when i entered the picture.) Wearing, yes. But then he'll come up with something that surprises us, that's a bit of insight into his thinking, a "funny" we wouldn't have thought of... and it's a reminder that he's here for us probably more than we are here for him.

@squinney,
Richard Bach ("Reluctant Messiah") advises us
that we are "the otters of the universe";
I think that we all owe it to ourselves to cram
as much fun and happiness into our lives
as we possibly can.

I hope that all of your family will fill your days with as much joy n fun as u possibly can.

@squinney,
FAS was mentioned as a possible problem....it was also a difficult birth and the chord was wrapped around BPBJRS neck causing concern about blood flow to the brain...both mom and son had elevated blood pressure because of it.... one thing for sure is that he has actual physical damage to his neural net.... a genetic misfire of some sort.... epilepsy does not occur in either side of the family...the low IQ and learning disabilities may or may not be connected to the epilepsy... I prefer , rather than trying to figure out why or who or what outside of finding a way to control his seizures of course, to view his condition as a perfect **** storm of bad luck.

Not trying to sound melodramatic but I am racked with pain about my son every waking minute of my life and would take his problems into myself gladly for him to have a normal life.

When you watch him you see every single good quality and realize that but for this one genetic anomaly, Stephen was programmed to be outgoing, social, athletic, musical and a leader. He attempts all these things and uses all these attributes to the best of his ability all the time and could function way above what his testing shows him capable of were he not double whammied by the seizures. As I said, a perfect **** storm.

@Bi-Polar Bear,
Have I told you lately, Bear and Squinney, that I adore both of you? Always have, always will.

Human knowledge is doubling and re-doubling ever faster.
That includes medical knowledge, including genetic research.
I 've always supported aggressive stem cell research.

@squinney,
He sounds like a hoot.
And I'm happy that at least he is feeling a bit better..
