I loved flying in them. But, they were dangerous, and, when they dropped us off the enemy knew exactly where we were. But, we would just melt into the jungle - as well as 130 men packing heavy could.

I much more enjoyed the time I hopped a Globemaster cargo plane, from San Antonio to Riverside, trying to get back to the Long Beach Naval Base, which is no longer there.

I did a similar flight from Texas to Riverside with the US Air Force, but that was around 61 years ago! I got to fly on a B29 in the front bubble, and watched the ground go by. It was a life memory for me. Remember flying over the airplane graveyard near Tucson, AZ, and it was 'free.'

WE sat in fold-down canvas seats and flew unpressurized - My eardrums could have burst coming down. They had to rise enough to equalize the pressure before they were able to land.
