Probably has something to do with the number of pixels in the picture; I also notice that when I print out large pictures, up close they look like boxes, but from further away, the picture comes out clear as it "should."

i didn't have to step back 10 feet - i just took off my glasses and leaned back in my chair - a lot easier than having to get up and walk outside .

These are hybrid images developed at MIT, I read about them in New Scientist last year - but the one I saw was 'Marilyn Einsteing'. Found the link!
