I bought a blooming plant today at Trader Joe's and it had no description
with it. The people at TJ's didn't know what it was, and I googled for it without success.
Does anyone know what this plant is called? It's rather pretty...

@CalamityJane,
It's a hibiscus or a mallow. I can't quite tell.

Aha!

@littlek,
Thank you, littlek, but it's definitely no hibiscus. I have a hibiscus in my
yard, and the leaves and the bloom are quite different.

The flowers of this plant look almost poppylike...

@CalamityJane,
Look at the link I posted. It's a mallow, not an hibiscus.

@CalamityJane,
It's marijuana disguised as some type of flowering plant.

@CalamityJane,
Sure thing! My mom has those in her garden. They are very pretty.

@JTT,
Then I should bring it into the house quickly. Laughing
They're (police) always circling around with helicopters to look for
Marijuana plants. Not far from my house, in the canyons, they found
a rather large marijuana field, all high tech, with solar powered sprinklers.

@littlek,
They certainly are pretty and the bloom is much smaller.
My other hibiscus has huge blooms.

@CalamityJane,
The mallows like it damp. Keep it watered and enjoy! By the way, they'd probably be quite happy in your garden given enough water.

@CalamityJane,
I read about the H. m... whatever, for years, but never seen one. Nice!

CJane, are you a new yorker reader by any chance? fascinating article in one of the recent ones re changes in california marijuana culture. It's online, but at something like 15 pages, quite a long hall to read on a computer monitor. Title is Dr. Kush, and I right now forget the author's name.

Thanks!

@littlek,
Yep, they'll do even better if you co-plant them under the canopy of sinsemilla.
