@squinney,

I have my settings as All Time / New Posts / No Collapsing. But, I can still thumbs down a thread to have it not appear on the New Post page. My understanding is that doing so collapses the thread for me on New Posts, but also collapses it for everyone else once it gets to -15 or so. Is that correct?

No...
only for those who set their preferences at a threshold of 5 or 10 or 15.. most of us using New Posts have them at No Collapsing (meaning no collapsing from others' thumbs down). Some may have chosen to have it react at a certain threshold.

@ossobuco,
I wonder what the default if for collapsing. I'm starting to see the point about how newcomers to the site might take all the disappeared topics if there is a preset collapse setting.

My view on the thumbs is starting to shift to the negative after a few days. I like the idea of being able to remove topics from view, but the thumbs have a meaning in our culture (whether or not the developers believe it's reasonable to have that meaning or not).

Will be mulling about this further.

@roger,
Hey, roger. How you doin'? Trust me when I tell you that asking me how I'm doing is not a question you want to ask.

Good to see you, kiddo.

Oh how lovely, but I am afraid your prayers won't be answered, Dudley -

@ehBeth,
To ehBeth, I'm starting to think that way too, at the same time I don't think it's best to change for other reasons having to do with the cumulative collection of ups and downs. But I think the thumbs graphics and big visible numbers do trigger or enhance "they don't like me" issues.

Anyway, we've talked about what is the default and I trust nimh's memory more than my own, that it is set at first to one of the thresholds. I think Craven said they're going to change that. (Don't trust me on what I think I saw.)

On the other hand, maybe there could be some explanation on the opening home page, and, secondly, this may change when there are "rooms" for categories like trivia and games.

To Roger - Ha! Now everyone will think I have everyone but you on "Ignore." That will be funny. Don't tell them it isn't true, k?

Smooch back!

Do you think those two might be related?

Wandlejw and I were just discussing my uncle Lester on another thread.

Are you interested in genealogy, too?
