This seems to be the same as the Aussie edition Monster Collossus no. 65; for which I have
30a open mouthed - AGOG
252a misgivings - ABACUS (I think there was a misprint in the clues!!)
253d spawned - BEGOT
I could be wrong.

There was a mix up with the clues in this puzzle. The correct clue for 252a is bead calculator so your answer abacus is correct.
This information was on the Lovatts website, maybe have a quick look there. Your sanity has been returned
