The science of leadership

I have recently been in a school musical (Guys and Dolls), in which there were two professional actors (due to lack of male actors). One of them was really friendly, offered lots of support and always gave advice. The other wasn't cold, but he kept his distance and only gave advice when it was requested by the director. At the end when the flowers and wine were being handed out, the first actor got polite applause, while the other got a standing ovation and a chant, "SPEECH SPEECH SPEECH!!!" My question is, why was the second actor more appreciated than the first?

I'm not sure, but I think it might have something to do with the fact that when a person converses with his inferiors as equals, his podium, as it were, is lowered, and the inferiors start to see him as an equal, whereas if someone keeps his distance, his faults aren't revealed and so he is considered a leader.

What do you think?

I think that two people is TOTALLY enough evidence to base a broad claim on. BRILLIANCE!

At least a couple of possibilities come to mind:

Maybe the second was a better actor, and the cast recognized his skill with their approval.

Or maybe the first was just acting[/u][/i] like he was friendly , but he really wasn't , while the second was simply acting[/u][/i] like he was aloof, but he really wasn't either.

This whole thing is developed nicely in the Myers Briggs group dynamics and personality traits analyses. Many people pooh pooh it but the Fed govt uses the system to profile terrorists and every other form of criminal .

The absolute best leader in the Myers Briggs 16 personality type setup, is the INTJ. Apparently the group responds with a sense of trust when the leader exudes confidence, is a bit aloof, is judgemental, and is demanding basing demands on an internalized model of the desired results.

Much can be learned from this stuff, even if you consider it claptrap. (Most psychology is not an exacting science anyway)

ok i take the test and it says I'M an intj.

i thought i was like an entj...(ARCHITECT?)

thats funny, it said something like "they dont neccesarily like taking the lead, they just wait for the current leader to fail..."

that is SO me.

but i dont think the test i took is very accurate. it was like 100 questions.

Vengoropatubus,
I never made any broad claims or assumptions. I merely asked why the people responded in that manner.

Please:
1) Read the original post before commenting.
2) If commenting, add something to the discussion.
3) Do not put people down over falsities.

real life,
The first option is possible, as the second actor was slightly better, but I think there was something more too it. One person commented that they didn't like the first actor because he acted like he was better than the second actor, which wasn't entirely true.

The first actor was a very nice guy, and very friendly. Their acting only extended to the borders of the stage, methinks.

farmerman,
Very interesting. Do you know where I could read about it?

OGIONIK,
Could you please give me the site where you found this test?

i think it could have been either actor B(the quiet one) was more desirable to have a speech, because he was more quiet/reserved.

quiet people usually have the most meanigful words to say.

i agree with you as well aperson, when someone keeps their distance their flaws are hidden in a way.

or maybe, he was a better actor LOL...

I have this here handbook on Myers Briggs, I beleieve that there are sites and I know that the test is on line.
Remember, some folks (mostly psychologists involved in group therapy) say that Myers Briggs is bogus. I dont have a dog in that fight because Ive used it in my business and found that at least the "type" as determined by th testing, is quite accurate. However, some of the psychologists say that when you take the test, its easy to look forward to what you want the outcome to be and its damn difficult to get a same score twice. SO, you decide.

NSA, CIA, and FBI use it for profiling and they seem happy with doing a single interpretation and clustering the other attributes of a, say "INTJ" creiminal mastermind. (There are good and bad things with each type, ), I was an INTJ and , by the FBI criteria, Id be a candidate for ommitting an antisocial act and being a gang leader . Also, Id be a prime suspect in a familial murder situation. Obviously you need other traits in the mix to actually make you a criminal mastermind.

Every type has a whole passl;e of leadership skills and also BAGGAGE , that enables us to track down , or in my industry case, evaluate slkills on assignments. EG is anENTQ is a leader of a team, they have the annoying habit of never making a decision and always wanting more and more data. This is murder in applied sciences and engineering. SOmebody has to make a decision or nothing gets done.

Just a few pointers about the system.Google up Myers Briggs and youll find a number of good links (Im on vacation and thats too much like work so Ill leave the hunt and find up to you, Im an INTJ , an"idea guy" , You are on my team Very Happy ).

My annoying habit of disregarding spelling errors even when I know they are there is also an INTJ propensity, we love creative ways to communicate and (I think Om sig Dave is one too because he stubbornly writes in a Hooked -on-Phonics style)

Ok I will try to find an online test. I'm not sure that results will be accurate though, as my personality is quite messed up. I'm normally an extrovert but I'm sometimes quite antisocial and distant.

intj i guess is "the mastermind"

entj is "the architect"

im tryin t\not to put much stock in these anymore, almost like i feel like i have to FIT into what it says instead of just doing whats me.

Actually ENTJ is the Field-Marshall.

My personality is kind of borderline. For example, I sometimes get very antisocial. Also, I am logical, but I am empathetic to people collectively, and I understand people. The N and J are probably more concrete. Thus, I bear resemblance to related types such as INTJ and ENFJ. ENFJ - I am definitely drawn towards grand and sometimes improbable schemes, and I can manipulate people as I can see things from their POV. INTJ - I do exude self-confidence and this is often misinterpreted (or interpreted) as arrogance. Also, I USED to be a perfectionist, but I sort of gave up, because it was too frustration as perfection can never be acheived.
