Hello,

I have one problem and I will be very thankful if i get an answer for it.
The thing is, I live in UK (just graduated masters here and got one year work permit).
I live with my Dutch boyfriend for more than a year and our relationship is serious. The problem is, we want to get married in the UK (as he lives here) but i am not sure if it is possible. as I am not from EU countries, will we be still able to marry and stay with him?

Regards,
Veka

I think so. Why not? You could go along to your local CAB* and ask there, or enquire at your local public library for that.

* Citizens Advice Bureau

Or maybe he has to go to his place of origin to marry. There would definitely be no problem then.

I'm not spendius, but ...

I would contact the Dutch embassy (and probably yours as well).
[You (both) need to have copies of the passports, international extracts of birth and an international declaration of domicile, nationality and civil state.]

Your boyfriend (husband, after the marriage) has to report the marriage to his (Dutch) hometown's town council. Then, you the marriage is registered in the local registry office (huwelijksregister).

You can better infos at
Gemeente Den Haag, Dienst Burgerzaken, Bureau Bijzondere Akten,
Spui 70, Postbus 12620, NL- 2500DL Den Haag

Infos (in Dutch) at Den Haag's website here.

I'm not clear if you are a UK citizen, Veka, and I don't know if that matters..

Thanks for you advice guys. I really appreciate it. I feel so confused and time passes so quickly that I don't know what to do.
I will take your advice into consideration. I will have a look in the library and check on Dutch embassy too. Hope everything will be ok as i can't imagine being apart from my partner for a long time.

Thanks a lot again!
Veka

Steve, Humour appears where one least expects it; it was worth a good belly laugh. Thanks for adding laughter to my day. Bless ya.

You're not supposed to be laughing c.i. when Fanny Mae and Funny Mac are wallowing in the ebbing tide.

spendi, My laughter is now reaching my gut, because it's not only mae and mac, but our banks are going belly up too! Our stock value is down 6.5% this year, and we've just taken out an equity line of credit to finance major renovations on our home. It's all very funny in a twisted sort of way. It's better than crying.

I've been reading about equity lines of credit for financing things--all sorts of things--in J.K.Galbraith's famous book The Great Crash. I thought it might be useful for me to re-read it in view of the things I hear and see these days. I admire his literary style as well as his insights.

From our new knowledge about these things it seems that all the equity lines of credit, such as yours, are parcelled up in lots and sold on to others such as Northern Rock which, in case you don't know, foundered recently midst scenes of naked greed and panic and has had to be taken into public ownership and is, as a consequence, the safest place to stick your stash. Sub-primes were dodgy equity lines of credit and Northern Rock were the ones who had a hold of a large parcel when the music stopped.

Artistically-it is beautiful. Really.

spendi studies Cal's avvie, slinks quietly out of the door, walks casually down the corridor on his tip-toes, out through the fire exit and gallops off up the road as fast as his little legs can carry him.

I know Cal. I'm working on it.

Your avvie can't do that. It looks like there's little room for any optimistic outcomes.
