One of our members, Guatam, is an Indian gentleman living in England. Perhaps you should look him up in the member list, and send him a private message to ask his advice.

Welcom to the monkey house, Boss, hope you'll stick around and join the fun . . .

There are great many people from India living happy normal lives throughout the UK. If you do a search on google, you'll find a vast number of sites covering many aspects of uk/indian life. But as Sentanta says, Gautam is an expert in many things, inc. money & cricket

At the very least, with that kind of experience you should be able to get temporary jobs in Brum through an agency for £5-£8/hr. Not a fortune I know but enough to get started with. As for permanent jobs, I would estimate ballpark figures of between £10-17,000, depending on employer, location, role etc etc.

Without wanting to pry too much, is your wife-to-be in a position to support you both when you first come over?

"ballpark figures" = approximate figures
Quote:
"ballpark figure"

At first, people described rough numerical estimates as "in the ballpark." An estimate that's in the ballpark is somewhere in the vicinity of the real value, as a baseball that a batter hits too far, but not beyond the bleachers, is still in the ballpark. More recently such approximations became known as ballpark figures.

Thanks (again, again) Walter!

Vinay - There will be lots of employment or recruitment agencies based in Birmingham (it is known as Brum in slang here sometimes).

Try a Google search along the lines of "permanent jobs agency birmingham uk". Some names of national agencies I know are Hayes, Reeds, Office Angels & Manpower, but there will be many smaller companies as well. They will all ask for a copy of your most recent CV (Resume). If you can get references from employers in India before you leave that will help as well. You may well be able to register before you come here, which will speed up the process greatly.

As you will be aware Birmingham has one of the largest Asian populations in Britain, and I would imagine that there will be many web-sites set up by groups helping Asians who are moving to Britain. Again, I would recommend a Google search to find them but it may take a while. Can your wife ask any asian friends she has if they know anywhere? Perhaps at the local temple or mosque or community centre?

Good luck anyway, let me know if you find anything!
