I need help as well
For 2D (Minor modifications to loose coins), I have 'small change' as the answer.

But Then I want to put in 'Barristers' for 15A (These lawyers are not the sort to go to the bar!).

And EMI for 20A ( Old record company overcapitalised a little).

But none of those answers intercept properly on the grid.

What have I done wrong?..... Embarrassed

Holiday 65 Cryptic
Could someone please explain to me how 13d "Concludes rugby centre breaks hearts" becomes GATHERS? It's a bit obscure to me.

Also, please confirm that 36a is RURAL and 58a is IRE

Cheers Very Happy

Hi janeo559!

13d Concludes rugby centre breaks hearts.

conclude - another word for gather (eg. 'from what he is saying I gather he would rather be somewhere else')

ruGby centre is 'G' +

breaks (trigger word for an anagram) hearts - ATHERS = GATHERS

36a You are to go with a novice after reverend commences pastoral.

You are - UR - to go with a - A = URA - novice (learner) - L - after reverend commences (ie the beginning of reverend) - R + URA + L - RURAL = pastoral.

58a Tip of the iceberg with regard to anger.

Tip of the iceberg (ie the beginning of iceberg) - I + with regard to - RE - IRE = anger

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks a bunch, Lezzles!!!

That was a nice, clear explanation. I'm still learning how to do the cryptics. Often I get the answer, but without understanding the clue. It's a bit frustrating. And I always forget to look for the "trigger words". But I'll keep trying!

Cool
