Is it old-fashioned to still call them records?

Things have changed in the music industry now, and I'm not sure about the proper lingo. When a band or recording artist releases a new bunch of songs now, is it still called a record? Do people say, for instance, "I just got the new Raconteurs record?" Or is it now considered a download? A disc? A release? Is the term "album" dead and gone forever? What do the kids call it these days? I still say "record."

I do too, although I know it sounds funny.

When I hear album, I think of back in the day when people would have albums for their records that opened up like a book cover.

You would separate the seeds out of you pot on them, lifting the side so the seeds would fall to the center.

kids today probably don't even know about **** like that.

they probably get all their pot pre-seeded for them.

Chai, that is a really dated practice. Today pot comes without seeds. Seedless pot. These spoiled bastard kids...

Totally true in every way. But I really thought that people still use the term "record" as a general term still, even though it's technically not correct.

been calling 'em CD's for a while now...

also, an up-ended frisbee is an excellent surface for de-seeding...

Who knows what kids call the. I just say "album" because that means a collection of songs, not referring to any type of media.

kicky, kicky, kicky... it seems you were unaware that there was a grace period during which you could call them CDs, records or albums. Yes, it's true, but that time is up, my dear man - now you call them CDs or albums. "Records" is so passe. Get with the program, hon.

Gee Kicky. We only called them records until we learned the difference between 45's and albums.

I never understood cleaning weed with double-album covers. Too much product ended up in the crack along with the seeds. Two albums covers, preferably white or light in color, always worked better for me. Very Happy

I say records - it's a blanket word for CD's, tapes or vinyl - it's like calling all soda Coke. Can I have a coke? What flavor? Dr Pepper please. Razz Maybe that is just a southern thing.

And anyway - I know what I mean so what does it matter?

Calling it all "Coke" is a dumb thing. I prefer the stupid sounding midwestern "pop". At least "pop" isn't a registered trademark.

They're recordings, therefore they're records.

Exactly, Boomer. I don't care if someday there will be recordings that are hard wired into one's cranium. They will still be records!
