Hey computer whizz folk

In the next hour I am getting a SKYPE headset phone thingy delivered to plug into the laptop. Just a quick question...

Do I just plug it in! Do I need to do anything else? I know I should just wait until I've got it here before I start asking questions but, me being me, just wanted to know that I don't have to install a million and one things to make it work.

I have VISTA and not XP - the box apparently says XP and higher - so I should be cruising, right?

I'm quite excited (ok - doesnt take much!) Rolling Eyes

You don't need a proprietary headset for Skype.

What won't recognize what?

BTW, the usual PC headset does not need software to be used.

OK

the first part of the installation says before you can use the phone with your computer the driver has to be installed

have put the cd in the laptop

window comes up as autorun

first step = install driver

I click on that - zip, nothing happens????????

doesnt give me the "next" window to continue

(maybe cd drive isnt working????)

oh, why izzn't anything simple Smile

(not a PC headset which is what i thought it would be, it's a phone)

(thanku)

Could you direct me to the website that describes this "phone"? Optical drive is likely working, open CD (right click) and look for "install".

(tried to install driver going thru right click.. and auto run... just doesnt do anything to move onto the next window!)

Turn on computer
Install CD
Do not follow prompts
Close everything
Go to "my computer"
Find your optical drive
Right click optical drive icon
Select "open"
Find "install"
Select "install"

Be forewarned that I find Vista sometimes a bit flaky unless the hardware / software specifically says it will run on Vista.

I cannot tell which device you have from the list either!

FYI:

Skype will work with virtually any reasonably modern PC hardware configuration, virtually any decent headset, virtually any sound card (integral to the mother board or separate it does not matter), virtually any sound system, etc.

Skype is not proprietary in its hardware requirements within the PC world.

You do not need a Skype phone.

oh oh oh

IT'S WORKING...

HOW HAPPY IS THAT!!!!!!

Thanku - I got a little cranky in the end and started clicking on everything. Had to go thru into the actual CD menu and into setup (doesn't tell you in the instructions (or destructions) to do that - anyhooo - clicked on something and voila...

it worked! Now of course I'm thinking - oh, just wish I had the headset coz all I need is a microphone....

HOWEVER - I will try it tonite and if it stay's happy and is clear - then I shall go with it. Not to0 keen on holding a phone to my ear all the time - ooooh - maybe it has a speakerphone..... mmmmmmmmmm need to investigate that bit next.

Thanku so much for your time in helping me out tho - much appreciated. Very Happy

Crying or Very sad

oh no no no no no

well, this has really now done something horrible to the laptop.

every time the phone is plugged - al sound goes thru it

i.e. can't listen to itunes, youtube etc

if I unplug it - have to then close everything down and start again.

If I start itunes up then put in the USB wireless connection for the phone i can listen to itunes .... but only if itunes has already started.

NO youtube music works through the laptop speakers - only thru the phone when connected.

that can't be rights can it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

this is way too much like hard work

all i want to do is plug something in and when skype calls be able to talk to someone! Confused

edit: EVERYTHING thru the internet comes thru the phone - even e-mail updates - instead of my laptop boinging at me - the phone makes a noise which can ONLY be heard if the phone is against my ear!!!
