Cajun stew: gumbo
God of pleasure: Bacchus
Allowance: per diem
I don't know the rest, but I'm sure someone else will.
Re: colossus 197 baffler
I agree with mac11 and add the following:
Rolls royce jet engine AVON
Stencil duplicating machine RONEO
Oxford servant SCOUT
will have a bit more of a think about the bowling set...
Could you double check your Baffler grid for me please?
Something keeps nagging at me that it is PINS you are looking for and I want to eliminate it. Please confirm the clue is: - - I -.
It came to me : SKIT
Hope that helps!
Would a bowling set in cricket be an OVER?
Yes, that is one of the reasons I thought the "I" might have been an error. However, I did think of skittles, and somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember SKIT referring to a bowling set (perhaps short for "skittles kit"?) and on checking Google, came up with -
--------------
Skittles
These beautifully crafted wooden skittles come in three fun and colourful designs. Choose between our gaily painted family of six koala pins in vibrant and contrasting detailed attire, our jungle animals! - tiger, elephant, lion, zebra, monkey and giraffe pins or our smart & dapper soldier skittles.
Neatly packed in a wooden drawer set with a slide out perspex lid, this portable set comes with three colourful wooden balls and promises knock-out fun! Hand painted with safe and colourful paints. Recommended for ages 3 years and up.
SKIT 1 / KOALA FAMILY SKITTLES SET
SKIT 2 / JUNGLE FAMILY SLITTLES SET
SKIT 3 / SOLDIER SKITTLES SET

It was a suggestion and I would be happy to be proven wrong!
Hi lezzles, well researched. However OVER fits in well with gumbO, aVon(RR engine), circE(Helios' daughter), and cRu(French vineyard)
Baffler 197
The answer to bowling set is 'over'
As I said, happy to be proven wrong!
(Helps if you have a grid in front of you)
