I'm not looking for a textbook, just something to keep my mind sharp.

"Quantum Reality" was a pretty good read...

"In Search of Schrodinger's cat" by John Gribbon is very well done.

It includes the history of the theory, as well as the thought experiments that illuminate the ideas behind the theory.

"Who's Afraid Of Schrodinger's Cat" is another, but it isn't all about quantum physics, it's more of a "newest ideas" across the entire subject of physics...but I enjoyed it.

Edit: I just looked, and my copy was published in 98, so "newest" should be newish.

Found this one at Half-price Books.

Just finished "Introducing Quantum Theory" which was a pretty good starting point. The cartoons were a little "dummies-esque" for my taste, though.

"Not Even Wrong" by Peter Woit. Main point is string theory, but covers quantum theory first. Not too long, and very interesting.

I'm looking to chaos next, then string theory.

Still on the Schrodinger's Cat book, though.

Well, if you will be reading on chaos, may I recommend

http://www.amazon.com/Collapse-Chaos-Discovering-Simplicity-Complex/dp/0670849839/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208799496&sr=8-11

Which may be a bit different from what you're looking for, but I couldn't put it down.

Have you tried Jumping Beans. I forget who wrote it.

Here Today Gone Tomorrow is pretty good too.

I've read several, but by far the best introductory explanation to quantum mechanics/theory I've ever seen is Marcus Chown's, The Quantum Zoo. HERE

Don't let the goofy cover fool you.

I'd recommend the Feynman Lectures, Volume 3. It's a textbook, but one that's intuitive and easy enough to follow. It's terrible to prepare for exams with, but for a more recreational reader like you, it should work well.
