Friends are getting married in a few months a someone has asked the brides friends to come up with some wedding poems/quotes to make up a gift book for the bride to be.
I cant find anything appropriate, Shakespeare doesnt make sense,Woody Allen isnt appropriate.
Could any of you wise people point me in the direction of a lovely poem.
Thanks
Here's one I like:
To My Dear and Loving Husband
If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were lov'd by wife, then thee.
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole Mines of gold,
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that Rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee give recompense.
Thy love is such I can in no way repay;
The heavens reward thee manifold I pray.
Then while we live, in love lets so persever,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.
Anne Bradstreet (1612-72)
Did you check song lyrics from some of your/their favorite artists? If you know what song they will dance to, it may be nice to put the lyrics in the book.
For quotes, the Song of Solomon in the Bible (minus the R-rated parts) has some nice segments. Proverbs, as well, has a few gems; the inside of my wedding band has Proverbs 19:14: "Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a noble wife is from the Lord."
Thanks for the replies, I thought about song lyrics then realised I didnt know what artistes they like.
But finally managed to think up a 4 verse poem for them, took longer than it did in my yournger days but got there in the end.
If you want some more specific poems, tell us about the bride and the circumstances under which she met her husband and I can write some for you.
