Drunk Rapp is not music. It is only the static of would-be poets.

Music is in the ear of the listener.....

While I don't particularly care for rap music, there are quite a few artists out there who at least try to send good messages in their music.

Eminem is a pretty good poet, and a wizard with word-play. My favorite songs of his are ones that tell stories, such as Stan and Lose Yourself.

Some rap songs that have good lyrics:

eminem:
Stan
2pac:
Dear Mama
Brenda´s got a baby
crazy
blasphemy......

Rap has it´s redeeming values, taste is like an ass, everyone has theirs. I don´t like any recent rap but there is a LOT in the genre that shouldn´t be dismissed out of hand.

Both of my daughters listnen to Rap music, they are teens and many of their friends also listen to Rapp music. But, they also listen to R&B and Hip Hop. The three pretty much go together and are played on the same station they listen to. I listen to R&B, Hip Hop and a little Rap. Most of Rap annoys me, because it's too hard and sounds the same over and over, and there seems to be so much anger in the Rappers voice.
Maybe teens enjoy it because most parents don't.
I think it's possible that Rappers talk about things most of us don't even have a clue about.
It's pretty hard to understand what you don't know, or what you haven't lived.
As long as listening to Rap, or singing it keeps anyone out of trouble, it's ok with me. I do have the ability to change the station when a song comes on I don't care to listen to.
Options are good.

I can't really understand what they're saying anyway so it might as well be without words.

The words is the only thing I like about rap music.

Rap is a genre that relies heavily on lyrics. When the lyrics are clever they merit my respect.

The music you may be referring to is called Hip Hop. The meaning of the two words is different to each person you ask but it's generally accepted that Hip Hop refers to the sampling style of music with a diriving beat while rap refers to the rythmical lyrics.

Oh, come on, New Haven, you don't like this? It has so much depth.

Artist: Rob Base
Album: Rocky V
Song: I Wanna Rock

(Got) (got) (got) (got) (got) (got to be)
(Got) (got) (got) (got) (got) (got to be)
(Got) (got) (got) (got) (got) (got to be)
(Got) (got to be funky)

Ey-ey, hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it

Yo, I hope you got the skills of a sumo
Cause battlin me I'm sure you get judoed
By me the Green Hornet, stoppin though you're on it
Verse after verse I won't curse, now I flaunt it
So, here we go, to claim a new throne
Step on stage and then you're in a twilight zone
Where no man has gone before
I like to kick the funky, funky, funky new style
So gimme space, clear the place so I can buckwild
I know you know I know you know they can't get near this
I know you know I know you know how suckers fear this
I know you know I know you know I won't rest
I know you know I know you know that I'm the best
I know you know I know you know who won't fess
I know you know I know you know that I'm blessed
I know you know I know you know that

(I wanna rock right now)
(Got to be funky)

As I think and let the knowledge be born as I step
Suckers try to beat me but they can't
Cause of my reputation, to rock this demonstration
The smoothest illustration, deep concentration
I think and sink into with the wits of a ginzu knife
Do what you like to keep it real hype
Come and get the riff from the gift MC
Smokin like a muthafuckin spliff
When I rhyme I start to smoke, make you choke
Unlike a man that's broke
My rhyme is like thunder, make you wonder
You can't get over, go under
When I rhyme my rhyme bursts into flames
And they're tough like the drawers called Haynes

(I wanna rock right now)
(Got to be funky)

Here's the conclusion of the dope rap rage
Use caution when you step on my stage
Cause I'ma rip MC's to shreads
Step to me, lights out, you're dead
I'll knock you out like in a Tyson fight
I roll you up like a blunt, real tight
Then smoke you, or just choke you
You shoulda chilled, cause now I broke you
Be cool when you see me flex
Left, right, left right, who's next?
Is it you, you, you, or your whole crew
Messin with me you're through
I don't sleep and I don't relax
I kick funky lyrics to the max
I know you like the rhymes I'm swingin
But there'll be more that I'm bringin

(I wanna rock right now)
(Got to be funky)

Or this, which is purported to be the number one hit...

Artist: Nas
Album: God's Son
Song: Made You Look

*shotgun blast*
*old school break beat, thugs chant "Bravehearts!" 7X*

[Verse 1: Nas]
Uh, uh, uh, now let's get it all in perspective
For all y'all enjoyment, a song y'all can step wit'
Y'all appointed me to bring rap justice
But I ain't five-O, y'all know it's Nas yo
Grey goose and a whole lotta hydro
Only describe us as soldier survivors
Stay laced in the best, well dressed with finesse
In a white tee lookin for wifie
Thug girl who fly and talks so nicely
Put her in the coupe so she can feel the nice breeze
We can drive thru the city no doubt, but don't say my car's topless
Say the titties is out, newness here's the anthem
Put your hand up that you shoot with, count your loot wit'
Push the pool stick in your new crib, same hand that you hoop with
Swing around like you stu-pid, king'a the town, yeah I been that
You know I click-clack where you and yor men's at
Do the Smurf, do the Wop, Baseball Bat
Rooftop like we bringing '88 back

[Chorus: Nas]
They shootin'! -- Aw made you look
You a slave to a page in my rhyme book
Gettin' Big/"big" money, playboy your time's up
Where them gangstas? Where them dimes at?

They shootin'! -- Aw made you look
You a slave to a page in my rhyme book
Gettin' Big/"big" money, playboy your time's up
Where them gangstas at? Where them dimes at?

[Verse 2: Nas]
This ain't rappin, this is Street-Hop
Now get up off your ass like your seat's hot
My live niggaz lit up the reefer
Trunk'a the car we got the streetsweeper
Don't start none, won't be none
No reason for your mans to panic
You don't wanna see no ambulances
Knock a pimp's drink down in his pimp cup
That's the way you get Timberland'd up
Let the music diffuse all the tension
Ball or convention, free admission
Hustlers, dealers and killers'ca move swift
Girls get close, you'ca feel where the tool's kept
All my just-comin' homies, parolees
Get money, leave the beef alone slowly
Get out my face, you people so phoney
Pull out my waist, the eagle fo-forty

[Chorus]
*thugs chanting "Bravehearts!" 4X over DJ scratching gunshots*

[Verse 3: Nas]
I see niggaz runnin', yo my mood is real rude
I lay you out, show you what steel do
Mobsters don't box, my pump shot obliges
Every invitation to fight you punk hazas
Like Pun said, "You ain't even en mi clasa"
Maybach Benz, back seat, tv plasma
Ladies lookin for athletes or rappers
Whatever you choose, whatever you do
Make sure he a thug and intelligent too
Like a real thoroughbred is, show me love
Lemme feel how the head is
Females whose the sexiest is always the nastiest
*record scratched off, Nas rhymes acapella*
And I like a little sassiness, a lotta class
Mommy reach in your bag, pass the fifth
I'm a leader, at last this a don you wit'
My nines'll spit, niggaz loose consciousness

There was a rap battle once, but I think it got locked.

I think rap, like all genres, has its genius's.
It's purpose is entertainment, but I think it runs a lot deeper than that it young R&B culture. Rap artists see rap as a way to express themselves, and show off their 'skillzzz.' It's competitive and agressive, but also very personal.

In todays music, I would say that R&B is getting more and more creative, sampling is being pushed further and further into areas of sound- which is more than you can say for most modern rock music, e.g. say the Kaiser Cheifs- just catchy songs with typical rock band set up. having said that, there is obviously the typical r&b artists too.

If I were to list the most innovitive artists out there today I would say:
goldfrapp, amy winehouse, muse, the artic monkeys, kellis, the white stripes.

My favorite rap song

Some of the busiest rhymes ever made by man
Are goin' into this mic, written by this hand
Are comin' out of this mouth, made by this tongue
I'll tell you now my name, my name is Young
But so you think that it's your destiny
To get the best of me, but I suggest to be
Quiet, bro', don't even try it from the east and west of me
Takin' it and never breakin' it or even shakin' it
Groovin' it and always movin' it, cuz I'm not fakin' it
Pullin' out rhymes like books off the shelf
Born in England, raised in Hollis, taught to go for myself
This is stone cold rhymin', no frills, no fluffs
And it's no accident that these rhymes sound tough
I'm goin' off, baby, there's no turnin' back
I'm on your TV, on your album, cassette and 8-track
And when the show is finally finished I'll be takin' my bow
My name is Young, and yo I got know-how, you know what I'm sayin'?

I got know-how
Party people, I got know...how
I kick it just like this...

Verse 2
-------

I got juice like the president, I'm makin' rappers hesitant
Invite me to your house and I'll be chillin' like a resident
Yes, cuz I'm that type of man
Cuz I make myself at home no matter where I am
I got it rollin' like thunder, makin' y'all wonder
Why I'm on top with all the other rappers under
I make no errors, mistakes or blunders
It's like a wedding, let no man put asunder
My name is Young MC, I like to rock mic well
Cuz when I get up on the mic I just release my spell
It's no hocus-pocus, I'll just get you into focus
And swarm all over you just like a horde of locusts
Smooth operator, female persuader
Spot a fly girl and in a week I'm gonna date her
I got the kind of style for the here and the now
And I can do it cuz I got know-how, you know what I'm sayin'?

I got know-how
Party people, I got know...how
Bust it!

Verse 3
-------

MC's I'll ruin, cuz I know what I'm doin'
I'll treat 'em like doublemint gum and start chewin'
I spit 'em out when the flavour's gone
And I repeat the chewin' practice 'til the break of dawn
Cuz I'm tough like a bone, sly like Stallone
Rockin' and clockin' on the microphone
Smooth like a mirror, in hearts I strike terror
Rhymes like runs and hits with no errors
Cold like a blizzard, on the mic I am the wizard
With the funky fresh rhymes comin' out of my gizzard
Never sneezin', never coughin', I rock the mic often
Hard as a rock and no sign I'll soften
Makin' sure I get respect, on my mind rhymes connect
I start to build like a builder from a architect
Movin' all around, above and under the ground
You see my face, and then you hear my sound
Comin' atcha with the mic in hand
I'm gonna take command just the way I planned
Cuz I'm a one-man band and you are my fan
Don't you understand? I'm like Superman
Yeah, the Man of Steel, don't you know the deal?
You better be for real, I got sex appeal
This is what I feel, and this here's my vow
And now you know the brother with know-how, you know what I'm sayin'?

I got know-how...and I'm chillin', never illin'
In my mouth I got two fillin's...whatever!
I'm on the mic, cold stone gettin' over
My name is Young MC, known as the fly casanova, kick it...

['Apache' until fade]
