Merry Clayton sang vocals with Mick Jagger on "Gimmie Shelter". Bette Davis, ex-wife of Miles, put out a few albums in the 70's. "They Say I'm Different" was one title. I honestly can't think of any more. Macy Gray?

Pink Floyd usually toured with 3 female backing vocalists. Below is concert footage showing all 3 women doing solos in the same song. (Two of the three ladies are Black.)

Great Gig in the Sky

I would guess he means lead vocals. A lot of bands have/had black back up singers.

I only wanted to add Pink Floyd, since people were talking about vocalists who worked with The Who and Led Zeppelin.

Take a look at my link though, it is a very entertaining concert clip.

Clare Torry was the lead vocalist on The Great Gig in the Sky.

And if you type "Mabel" + "Perkins" + "guitar" into google, you will get this thread and nothing more. Of course those of us who know gus already knew that.

@TigerLily1985,
The roots of Rock and Roll (term created by Black musicians) is "Black" music, namely rythym and blues.
Black people CREATED rock and White musicians copied it/White music industry-fans mainstreamed it in American music culture.
I think it's a shame that the major influence of Black musicians on rock music (eg. Robert Johnson, Big Joe Turner, Little Richard -the original King of Rock, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Be Be King, Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, the Sharelles, Chubby Checker, Fats Domino, Jimmy Hendrix,etc. ) seems to be forgotten by many (including Blacks) to the point that rock is mistakenly considered SOLELY "White" music.
