Claw covers

I am trying to figure out a way to solve this claw problem cheaply.

Jillian has eczema, and it flairs when Flash plays with her.
He is not scratching her on purpose.. I have watched..
His claws just -get in the way- and she has to pay the price with small patches on her arms and legs.

I have seen these rubber cat claw covers that go on with what looks to be a non toxic form of superglue..

has anyone tried these?
Do they really work?

Never tried them myself, but I've heard nothing but negatives.

Best seems to be claw trimmers. The kind that look like a small pair of sissors. Trim the points, and they'll wear down smoothly. Cats' claws are usually translucent, so you can see the pink quick. Don't cut that far back.

I trim their nails all the time.
It works.. but only to a certain extent.

The problem is that there is enough of a nail left to scratch jillian.
She is itchy and uncomfortable.. And I feel bad for her..

I think I will order some and see?

I mean.. they are only 18 bucks so .. ehh..

it is FREAKING hilarious.

I am ordering Flash some clear covers.

If they work well enough, I am going to give him some funky colored nails.
hehe

he's gonna look SOOO gay.. Laughing

I can see Nisse wearing these things. Mysan would absolutely kill me in the process.

if your cats are used to having their nails clipped? They should be ok with this.

You have to fill the little plastic cover with some... what looks like.. non toxic super glue. Then you just slide the cover on their nail and let it set for about 4 minutes.
Thats it.

They have them in a bunch of colors. For kittens ( which is what I have to order for now..) they have soft pastels and baby blue and pink ones.
For adults they have primary colors and a few other , more wild colors as well..

I will defiantly tell ya how well they work and if they are worth the effort..

I am not a huge fan of declawing myself. So this is a good alternative.

I just feel awful watching Jillian scratch her skin and then watching it bleed alot.
She looks like she has had a few ant bites. Since she has been home sick for almost two weeks, she is covered in scratchs that aggravate her sensitive excema.

I can very well understand why you want to try this, shewolf. And I am waiting for your report!

We never clip our cats' nails. The thought alone scares me! But again, we could probably do it with Nisse. Declawing is illegal in Germany.

Nisse and Mysan are 7 years old now so they don't scratch people very often when playing. And they are pretty with furniture, too.

Little colored covers for the kitten? Can't wait to see it!

I tried to use these. They didn't stay on too long. We had bright red ones. They did look cool - but didn't last very long. In my opinion they are only good for dressing up and going on the town - after that they start to fall off.

I have these on little Flash right now.

Because he is used to being handled in odd ways ( thank the bean for that ) he was completely fine with me putting these on.

It took less then 2 minutes and he now can not claw the couch and has played with Jillian and she has no new red spots.

So far... WOOHOO! Very Happy

How has your cat reacted to them? Mine tried to bite them off and pull them off - maybe that is why they didn't work for my kitties.

Flash has not given them a second thought.

I noticed he acted funny when he went to pull his claws on the rug.

he stretched, pushed out his claws and when they did not catch on anything he stopped and looked at one paw.. then went on his way.

24 hours and he has yet to bite them, pick at them.. or otherwise even notice them from what I can tell..
