Although the awards show might be truncated, the latest news is that many of the musicians and singers will attend the Grammy's even if the WGA strike continues. I do own the Penderecki and that is the CD I think will win in Choral. I also own the Esa-Pekka Solonen "The Rite of Spring," I think my eighth or ninth version of that piece (!), probably only beat out by how may "Carmina Burana" and "The Planets" versions I own. My collection is not well catalog and you'd think since retirement that would have been a project, but, unfortunately, I keep getting lighting, audio and video projects.

I'll post the Jazz on a separate topic.

Thanks for posting this. I'll have to have a listen to these recordings. I'm particularly interested in the Muti recordings. I've always preferred his orchestral conducting to his operatic conducting.

Well, that's where he started! I have a 1970's recording of that opera with Muti but I'd love to hear the possibly more fine edged sound and any differences in the interpretation in the orchestration. I love Muti's record of film music from the Italian cinema classics.

Yeah... his years at Philadelphia are not always look upon favorably, but some of the recordings he made during his tenure there are absolute gems. His recording of Mahler 1 is still my favorite out there; I'd put it above Walter's iconic recording or Tilson Thomas's more recent one.

Thank you for posting this.

I wouldn't have spotted the opera category - and I'm very excited about the Paul O'Dette Lully offering being in there.

Naxos releases a lot of classical music than one doesn't find recorded. This is their site with their new releases:

http://www.naxos.com/

They do need to hire on someone in their graphics department to design more professional covers. They look boring and too much like bargain basement re-released DVD's. Likely some of them are re-releases that are priced low.
