Good argument. I do agree 'orders' is a synonym for 'instructions', however in this clue I feel 'religious communities' add something of an additional meaning to it, hence I've chosen 'creeds'. A creed is the written body of teachings of a religious group that are generally accepted by that group.

Continuing the thread, it is generally accepted that when you join a religious community, eg. nun, priest that you take 'orders'. Debatable clue!

I've got ORDERS, it was gut instinct when I saw the word INSTRUCTIONS, almost a kind of word association. Also my feminine instinct kicked in and CREEDS is a little TOO Cryptic for Lovatts I feel, but hats off to you Dutchy, you've certainly given us all food for thought.
I agree with Grunt! Just slow down will ya; what with one post a month flooding in - hard to cope!
