I would rather starve than eat one of my pets. They aren't just pets to me, they are my family.

Anmial rights advocate, Bridgette Bardot, said, Koreans who eat dog meat are barbarians' over the phone during talks with MBC radio host on December 3rd, 2001. Seok-Hee Shon asked, "Do you know the fact that there are French who eat dog meat?" And she said, "Absolutely not." "And she said further, "I can't talk any longer with Koreans who lie," and she hung up the phone. So, professor, Yong-Geun Ann at Chungcheong College proved her statement of the French not eating dog meat to be a lie, writing an article in The Jungangilbo (Dec. 6th, 2001) stating the French ate dog meat during the Frenco-Prussian War, presenting documents from butcher shops in France in the 1870s, and a photo (from a French book) showing the opening of a dog meat butcher's in France. The following are the materials showing that the French ate dog meat.

I've actually eaten dog a few times before -- once in California, once in southern China, and in South Korea, but never as the focus of a meal. So I rounded up a few brave men for a trip out to "Koreatown" in Shanghai, where there are several restaurants specializing in dog meat. I asked a few ladies to join us, but they all had excuses ... what's up with that? Is dog meat macho?

We ordered 5 courses of dog meat -- hot pot (raw dog meat you put into a boiling pot to cook briefly), dog soup, stir-fried dog, dog chops, and grilled BBQ dog. I enjoyed the grilled dog best. Good tender prime cuts of doggy deliciousness!

No, I would not eat my pet.

I figure if I'm in that bad a shape, the animal is too. What if I ate it and threw up, or ate it and then died shortly after? I would have killed a friend for no reason.

Is one dog going to be the difference between me starving or not? If I'm that bad off, or conversely that close to being rescued, killing my dog would be a wasteful, hateful, self centered thing to do.

Sulpher crested cockatoos make good pets.

http://animal-world.com/encyclo/birds/cockatoos/images/greatersulphurFG.jpg

They even have their own recipie

The way to cook a cockatoo:
Ingredients:
1x medium to large cockatoo
1x medium onion
1x clove garlic
1x teaspoon thyme
1x medium sized rock
Salt and pepper to taste

Chop and fry garlic and onion in a dash of olive oil until browned.
Put all ingredients in a deep baking dish. Cover with water, and place lid on dish to ensure maximum tenderness.
Put in middle shelf of oven on medium heat.
Check contents every 15 minutes until rock is soft.
Throw out cockatoo, and eat rock.

That was an awfully nice post, squinney. I guess you, me, TTH, CJ and Intrepid can all hang out not eating our pets together, while the rest of the barbarians all chow down and then turn on each other next... Laughing

TTH, yes, that's my Precious! She has a habit of zoning out with her tongue hanging way out of her mouth. When she's really out of it I can pull it out further without her noticing Smile

(uh, I should clarify that I call her "Precious" as a joke to sound like a crazy cat lady/Gollum on purpose -- I'm not actually that weird yet...)

......Olga, I think you have the right idea-- I'd better leave too if I want to still like coming to a2k Crying or Very sad

Wise move by the tabby person!

Nothing worse than a really, really convincing argument to do something unthinkable, which you can't really argue against!

Best to stay right away! Laughing

Is there a reason why you are offended, but not when someone eats a chicken or a cow? Is it because of the culture you come from? Some cultures forbid eating pigs, others cows. Pigs are intelligent animals at the top of the food chain, and can make good pets. And chickens are cute. So, what's your beef with eating dog?

Well, it'd be a damn sight harder if it's the family pet!

Call me sentimental, I don't care!
