I've heard other people say that about cumin...but not about roma tomatos.

Cumin is something that should be used sparingly.

I find that most roses smell like fresh raspberries.

Vid, that doesn't sound bad at all!

I am one of (I've heard) about 5% of the population that thinks cilantro tastes like soap. Unfortunately, most people love it and I love Mexican food...

That's so funny you mention that wy...I was thinking about that when writing about the cumin.

I know a couple of people who hate cilantro, for the same reason.

So, if you're in a mexican restaurant, what do you avoid, as far as specific dishes?

Nothing specific, but if the salsa has those leaves floating in it, I'll forgo it. Usually there's enough other flavor in a dish where it's been used that I can ignore it -- garnishes excepted!

Isn't cilantro the leaves of the plant that cumin is the seed pod of?

I don't think so. Is coriander the dusty seeds of cilantro?

I love cilantro -- tend to chop it to little bits before working it into things, though.

cilantro does have a soapy taste to me. Others Ive mentioned this to think Im nuts. Coriander is a round seed of the cilantro plant (which is in the dill/fennel family) Coriander is a sweet smelling seed thats nothing like the parent plant.

Dunkin Donuts coffee smells like burnt tires .

Speaking of burnt rubber.

When I was a kid, I was vacuuming the rug and the rubber belt burnt out.

I didn't know what it was, and yelled out to my mother "Are you making chicken for dinner?"

I think cilantro is foul, and so is parsley - I just hate them both. Stupid restaurant cooks who liberally sprinkle that shite all over my food and plate - why don't they ask first?

But... as an Indian Food-lover, I will happily eat all your share of the cumin, coriander, and any other spices you don't like. And I think they should be used liberally Smile

I used to hate wasabi and then a couple years ago decided to try it again. I now slather it on my sushi Smile Everyone finds it quite disgusting. God, I wish I had some sushi now... everything's closed except McD's.

Hate pickled ginger, though.

I know a sushi chef who grumbles about wasabi. "Why doesn't anyone want to taste their food?" I love spicy heat, though, so to hell with him.

Earlier the smell of microwaved fake-meat sausage came drifting up through the ducts to the bedroom. Had me looking around for the dog piss for about 5 minutes before I figured out what it was.

oh man, sushi does sound good right now.

I'm with you about that pickled ginger...nasty.

Wasabi's just too hot for me.

I've had it mixed with something else though, and that was good.

fake meat sausages = dog piss.

There's some plant that smells like cat piss, actually probably more than one.

Got some chantrelles cooked up in a sherry/olive oil/vinegar reduction with dried basil, waiting to throw it in with roma tomatoes and onions and garlic and dump it over linguine.

Smells like food.
