Things that taste/smell like something else.

Thomas told an amusing anecdote on another thread about buying an American mouthwash, Listerine Glacial Blast.

It smelled/tasted like the deorderant cubes in German urinals...perhaps Listerine should have done more field testing.

This got me thinking.
I've attempted to eat/drink something that immediatley brought to mind some totally unrelated object...usually disgusting.

There was one that puzzled me though.

I once bought a Snapple Cherry Lime Rickey beverage. It tasted so bad, I had to take another sip to make sure.

It definatley reminded me of something horrible, but couldn't place it. I actually kept the bottle nearby for the entire afternoon. Occassionally girding my loins for another go.

A couple of weeks ago, someone sprayed air freshener in their office, that to me smelled like that stuff the custodian in grade school would sprinke on a kids vomit.

What's this world coming to?

Ew!

This isn't quite what you mean but it came to mind when I saw your thread title. I had an apparently over-ripe cherry tomato the other day and immediately thought it tasted just like a wet dog smells. (It was nasty.)

Smells just like the bug spray used in professional kitchens. All varieties of this brand smell like bug spray to me.

Ok, going really out there....

I had a thread once here about 'rhoids. I was describing this tea I bought that was really supposed to help.

Without looking back, I think I said something like it tasted like what I imagined a mummy's tomb would smell/taste like if I broke into its sarchophous.

I forced down 2 swallows, then ran to the bathroom. Unfortunately, while it was coming back up it got into my nasal passages, and remained there for a loooooong time.

blech.

Ha...here is what I said....

It tastes like something you would find a evil spirit drinking in the Book of the Dead. Something made out of a cadaver.

Picture yourself in an ancient pyramid, surrounded by death, you suddenly hear something and turn around to find a 5000 year old mummy standing over you.
You strike out at it, screaming.
On contact, the mummy disenegrates, and 5000 year old dust, incense, oils, embalming fluids, rat turds, and dried mummy flesh fly into your mouth.

That's why she's your better half.

Why do you torment her so?

I hope that it was just the smell part that was queer. Tell me he didn't actually taste a urinal block to compare the taste of the mouthwash! Shocked

Perhaps she feels the benefit of you wearing bug spray outweighs the negative aroma...

I love most shellfish, but I cannot do oysters.

It's like trying to swallow a piece of soap. It gets stuck right there, in the back of my throat. It won't go down.

Sounds like its an acquired taste. I used to drink Pu-ehr tea and that had a fungy flavor. Reminded me of a really musty tea with a sort of undertaste of decay. Hell, no different than some cheeses.

Moxie smells and tastes like brake fluid.

Many years ago, I used to think that all those imported cheeses at the delicatessen smelt like a combination of old, smelly socks & vomit.
THEN I developed an addiction for them!
