@Rockhead,
There are reports of herpes cats who don't show respiratory signs, and I'm pretty sure that some of the cats we see at the shelter have herpes eyes without the nose boogers, but these are usually grown cats with chronic issues. The lysine might be worth a shot, though, in case that is what's going on. It won't cause any harm, unless it puts her off her food...

As to big cat -- if it's a primary bacterial infection of the eyes (e.g., chlamydophila or mycoplasma), it could be infectious. If it's herpes -- well, frankly, your big cat's probably already had the herpes, and if he's been vaccinated in the past 5 years (or more), he's probably got some protection against developing significant disease from it.

@patiodog,
I DO appreciate the advice, and will keep y'all posted.

The two do not socialize beyond a "get the F away from me you ass" so far, so I am prolly OK there just yet.

p-dawg update...

Seems the outer ducts are what is dumping now, although overall has lessened.

She let me clean her eyes tonight, but wet fingers only...

(no i dint lick her like a mama cat, but sorta)

She is eating and playing and everything else as normal, and has not been matted closed again.

Thoughts?

(they sit close and talk now, I am learning new words...)

@Rockhead,
Sounds like she's a little better, which is progress. Whatever you're doing now, I'd stick with it as long as things continue to improve. What does the stuff coming out of her eyes look like -- is it getting thinner, or is it still thick?

If I was to look at her, I'd be especially concerned about the corneas (the surface of the eyes), since they damage easily, heal slowly, and failure is catastrophic. Can you see enough of the eyes themselves to see if the surface looks smooth, or like there might be indentations over the colored part of the eye?

If you can see the whites of the eyes, are they red? If they're red, are the vessels very very fine, or are they bigger (e.g., mechanical pencil lead size)?

@patiodog,
(getting out the strong reading glasses)

Tobramycin .3%

best applied right after rousing the she-devil from a nap...

The fluid is thick and greeny clear, turns hard crusty black upon drying.

She has small eyes (as opposed to big stinky who has moon sized eyes) and the inner lids are showing a lot, I will try to get her to let me look around in them, but she is highly suspicious of me right now...

(thanks for your help)

@Rockhead,
Tobra should be much gentler. Good luck to you both.

@patiodog,
the little wench is now crashed with her chin atop the air pump for the fishies, and is much better, as is evidenced by the OMG its dawn and I am a ferocious evil kitty rampages...

(thanks again)

@Rockhead,
No worries. I know how important it is to get them fattened up for the Easter feast.

@shewolfnm,
Think I got pix of the she-demon to be delivered by friends soon.

we are officially a 2 cat blended household, as play has begun between big stinky and baby sarge. (no pix, dink is wise to such yet, and wants to be painted as stoic)

thanx again to the dawg...

@JPB,
an assist to the squirrel...

my schefflera has recovered, that was her first indoor hidey-hole.

she now resides in the cardboard box that keeps the ivy in the sunlight of Dink's window, a precarious position at best.

the last pic was on my lap, I will try to get one of the fat boy for perspective.

@Rockhead,
Oh, we see a lot of farm cats (this is Wisconsin, after all), but they come in all shapes and sizes here.

The cats who come in to be fixed in carriers with manure on them usually aren't too bad to deal with. If there's a smell of stale cigarette smoke coming out, though, some serious cat wrangling is ahead. (Ditto for anything named "Princess" or "Precious"...)

@patiodog,
pretty sure mine was the first baby sarge...

it actually fits her, what with the 5 am reveille and all.
