Wow, I'm so sorry to read this. I hope -- well, it sounds corny but what can I tell ya? -- that it devolves as well as it can.

No, Stage 3 is not good. But it's not hopeless by any means.

Remember, my hubby had Stage 3 when SonofEva was born. That was more than 13 years ago. I won't minimize what he went through, but the point is, he survived. And there is every reason to think he'll be around for a very long time.

Think positive. Hubby would tell you it's crucial.

Eva, thanks so much for giving me hope. Does Hubby know what damaged his lungs? Was it smoking or was it toxic environment?

Hubby's cancer was in his throat, not lungs. (Not much different prognosis, though somewhat different treatment.) After badgering the doctors for six months, one finally gave us a straight answer...yes, it was smoking-related.

However, as part of the prep for surgery, they told him that smoking would no longer be "a risk factor" for him. It would kill him, plain and simple. They could remove the tumor and radiate as agressively as possible, but if those same toxins kept being placed at that compromised site, the cancer would most assuredly recur. He never smoked another cigarette after that. If he had, I would have killed him myself and saved us both any further agony.

And best of luck to you and your son!

I told Hubby before his surgery that I believed his mental attitude would determine about 90% of the outcome. I do believe that.

Luckily, he listened. And he made up his mind on the spot that this would not be what killed him. He now tells people that's what got him through it.

He's right, but that's only part of the story. We had good doctors, and we did our own research. Had it not been for the fact that this happened when we were finally having the baby we'd wanted for so long, we probably wouldn't have been so vigilant. So, in a way, SonofEva saved him. (Along with the doctors, treatment, me, attitude, etc., of course.)

If any of this helps your son, use it.

Eva, your valuable comments are on their way to my son and to his sister, Butrflynet.

He is trying to get a second opinion retesting to confirm that he is stage 3.

Update
My son took this week off work to undergo several tests. No test results yet, but his doctor said he will have to go on oxygen.

Don't know how long he will be able to work. He will be 51 in February.

I just had a long phone conversation with my son. He was laid off his job because of too much sick leave.

Now what does he do? The bad news never ends.

He is on oxygen, which is helping him to breath better.

Maddy is sick
It's 10 pm and I just returned from the vet. About 8:45 pm, Maddy had a seizure. He and Dolly were cuddled on my lap and suddenly Maddy started trembling. He tried to get down on the floor but couldn't stand up. He just sat on all fours on the floor for about three minutes. I immediately called the vet and got him there just as they were closing. The doctor took blood, which I won't have the test results for about five days, to be sure all of Maddy's organs are OK ($271.00 I don't have medical insurance for Maddy and Dolly.)

Maddy had a similar seizure about six months ago, but I didn't realize it was a seizure and didn't take him to the vet at that time.

The vet said it's possible that Maddy may have brain cancer. The only way to be sure is to have an MRI done. In the meantime, he wants Maddy on daily Phenobarbital for at least thirty days and may have to take it for the rest of his life.

Maddy seems fine now, but I'm an emotional wreck. I can't bear the thought of losing Maddy. He's only four years old and the sweetest dog in the world.

Oh no! I hope it is not anything serious. He's such a special dog with a truly loveable personality. I know you are extremely attached to him, mom. Hugs and kisses to both of you.

Here's a couple pictures I took of him when I last visited:

My Chow Chow Daizey passed away with similar symptoms.

I have worked in an industrial environment, marine environment, and now aviation environment as an Electrician. So I've been exposed to hazardous airborne particulates in all three. I have played music in smoky venues also.

BBB I truly sympathize and share some of your concerns!
