Post your ridiculously obscure 'what song is this' here!

The first of many from me:

In the late 1970s double J (yes kids, it grew a j in the 80s) used to play a song that had minimalist music and lyrics along the lines of 'Benny, Benny, you married a bull cow'.

I'd describe it as mexican punk skiffle - if I had to.

I know this ridiculous, but has anyone have any idea of the song, artist, and where I can download it?

PS yep, I tried google (about 3 million times)

OK another one

There was a sci-fi movie called Android (1982) which had a wooden drawing dummy featured in the opening credits.

In the mid to late 1980s there was a sort of club/dancy track that featured dialog very reminiscent of that movie (an android falling in love and killing or being killed to save the human he'd fallen in love with).

Artist and title please.

Yeah I'm in Love with an Android
Quote:
Her kisses are metallic and her touch is warm but cold.
And I don't think she sleeps at night,
but plugs into the wall.
And we have a great relationship,
based on things that can't be said.
And she has a great relationship with her television set.

Chorus:
And, yeah, I'm in love with an android, but so what?
Stranger things have happened,
stranger things have been loved.

The neighbors are an odd bunch and they're too inquisitive.
They don't like heavy metal, or the type she shacks up with.
But I swore I'm done with humans and I like to keep my word.
And she beeps for me every time
it's time to go water the fern.

Actually this may be better --
Rush - The Body Electric:
Quote:
One humanoid escapee
One android on the run
Seeking freedom beneath a lonely desert sun

Trying to change its program
Trying to change the mode -- crack the code
Images conflicting into data overload

Chorus
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
SOS
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
In distress
1-0-0-1-0-0

Memory banks unloading
Bytes break into bits
Unit One's in trouble and it's scared out of its wits

Guidance systems break down
A struggle to exist
To resist
A pulse of dying power in a clenching plastic fist

Chorus

It replays each of the days
A hundred years of routines
Bows its head and prays
To the mother of all machines

OR --
Styx - Mr. Roboto

Quote:
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
Mata ah-oo hima de
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
Himitsu wo shiri tai

You're wondering who I am-machine or mannequin
With parts made in Japan, I am the modren man

I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive

I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control

I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For doing the jobs that nobody wants to
And thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For helping me escape just when I needed to
Thank you-thank you, thank you
I want to thank you, please, thank you

The problem's plain to see: too much technology
Machines to save our lives. Machines dehumanize.

The time has come at last
To throw away this mask
So everyone can see
My true identity...
I'm Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy!

If no luck finding it, the movie is available on amazon and you can probably rent it from netflix.

Searching for My Love by Huey Lewis and the news was in the soundtrack to the movie "Android." The lyrics are :

Searchin', searchin' for my baby, yes I am
Searchin', searchin' for my baby, yes I am

Searchin', searchin' for my baby
I'm searchin', searchin' for my love
I'm searchin' for the one I adore
If I find her you know I will
I'll never, never let her go no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no
I'll never, never let her go, now, baby

I love you, I need you
I need you by my side
For my love, for my true love
I'll never, never never hide, now, baby, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no I'll never, never never hide, no no

I wonder I wonder why
You had to leave me this way
I'm sorry, darling that I made you cry
Forgive me, love, for the things I've done to you
Come along, come along
Give me one more try

Searchin', baby
I'm searchin', searchin' for my love
I'm searchin' for the one I adore
When I find her I'll never, never let her go, no no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I'll never, never let her go

Guys - the song I was looking for wasn't in Android - it just stole the theme, and MAY have sampled some dialogue. And it was vaguely techno/electro/club/dance.

But if someone's collecting android songs:

Spirit of the Age - Hawkwind

(Brock / Calvert)

i would have like you
to have been
deep frozen too
and waiting still
as fresh in your flesh
for my return to earth
but your father refused
to sign the forms
to freeze you
let's see
you'd bee
about sixty now
and long dead
by the the time i return
to earth
my time held dreams
were full of you
as you were
when i left:
still under-age

your android replica
is playing up again
it's no joke
when she comes
she moans
another's name

that's the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)
it's just the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)
and that's the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)
that is the spirit of the age

i am a clone
i am not alone
every fibre of my flesh
and bone
is identical to the others'
everything i say
is in the same tone
as my test-tube brothers'
voice.
there is no choice
between us
if you had ever seen us
you'd rejoice
in your uniqueness
and consider every weakness
something special
of your own

being a clone
i have no flaws to identify
even this doggerel
that pours from my pen
has just been written by
another twenty
telepathic men
All word for word:
'o for the wings
of any bird
other than a battery hen.'

but that's the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)
that's just the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)
it's just the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)
adjust the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)
unjust the spirit of the age
(spirit of the age)

As much as I love Rockwiz I don't think it's going to help me track down recordings of those songs.

@hingehead,
I found it!!!!

It's by Arto/Neto and it's called 'Pini, Pini' - it is punk skiffle but not Mexican, African. Arto was/is the guitarist of DNA, pillars of the NY No Wave Scene.

Here it is in all it's awful glory!

@panzade,
The Jays was a revolutionary radio station at the time - I have no idea how they found some of the stuff they played - this is pre-web. It was govt funded but run autonomously by a bunch of anarchists (or so it seemed). I had a friend who did the occasional dog shift (1-6am).

It was so unprofessional - I remember one DJ putting on Tangerine Dream's 'Ricochet' because a friend had turned up and he wanted to get a bite - and figuring 20 minutes was enough time, when he got back the record was still spinning in the booth so he kept chatting to his mate, until he finally answered the phone and a listener said that the album had a scratch and had been playing the same loop for an hour.

That said it's support for indie new wave acts (local and international) is a large part of the reason Australia has been churning decent bands out for three decades.

OK here's another one I've been trolling the web for.

The only line I remember is:

"My girl is red hot, your girl aint diddly squat" I used to hear the second part as 'can't do the squat' but I think 'diddly squat' is probably the line. The song has been covered a few times but I'm trying to find a particular version that's quite quick and boppy with a vaguely rootsy blues feel. I'll need to hear it to figure out if it's the same version. Another late 70s double jay track.

@msolga,
Maybe this one:

Robert Gordon - Red Hot Lyrics

My gal is red hot - your gal aint doodley squat!
Yeah! My gal is red hot - your gal aint doodley squat
Well she aint got money, but man she's really got a lot.

Well I gotta gal, six feet four, sleeps in the kitchen
With her face at the door but,
My gal is red hot - your gal aint doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she aint got money, but man she's really got a lot.

Well she walks all night, talks all day
She's the kinda woman gotta have her way, but
My gal is red hot - your gal aint doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she aint got money, but man she's really got a lot.
Oh rock it...

Well she's the kinda woman who's a lounge-around
Spendin' my business all over town, but
My gal is red hot - your gal aint doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she aint got money, but man she's really got a lot.

Well she's a one mans woman which is what I like
But I wish she was a woman change her mind every night, but
My gal is red hot - your gal aint doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she aint got money, but man she's really got a lot.

@hingehead,
It's Robert Gordon, as Francis said. And ironically I sing it with our band.

BTW-The guitarist on this cut, Link Wray was very influential with his instrumental: "Rumble", the only instrumental to be banned.LOL

Try to imagine hearing this tune on the radio in 1958 amidst Pat Boone and Patti Page

@panzade,
That's the one Panz! And the 1977 release date fits in nicely with my 2JJ timeline. Now to try and track the bugger down! Thanks a million!
