Do you see horses with Cushing's disease?
If you do, what do they look like when they first present? What are your general impressions of Cushing's horses?
Just wanted the opinion of someone outside the ivory tower in a place that's probably got a fair number of horses...
(there may or may not be a better place to post this)
Helfino, but if see him on the NFL thread, I'll direct him here if he hasn't answered...
are you in a hurry with a horse?
Ditto - that is, I doubt he mind one from Pdawg.
Lot of horses here p/dog.
I "phoned a friend"
Fat over tail base, pot belly, weight loss despite high quality feed, long wavy coat persisting in summer.
so sayeth my friend who has horses but is not a vet.
Edit: Also more prevelant in older horses she says.
Thanks, dadpad. I've got all that stuff from the usual sources. Looking for the finer details (like how to spot it early).
No rush, saw a really obvious (read: advanced) case today, wanted to know what it might have looked like a few years ago. Don't have any plans of treating them myself, but I might happen to see one that looks suspect and isn't getting any attention for it.
Will pm cowdoc...
Finally saw this thread, and - in a nutshell - never saw a Cushing's horse, at least to my knowledge. Sorry it took so long. I spent most of the past five weeks on the road.
No worries. We had one in who had been misdiagnosed for years as "metabolic syndrome" (whatever sort of hand-waving that is).
Good luck this winter.
