Digital movie platforms for T.V.

Hello,
I have a downsyndrom friend who loves to watch movies on T.V. He can use a vcr easily and a dvd player easily. However the problem is that he plays them so much that they break or get scratched up so they won't play anymore.
Is there a system I can buy for him that uses digital information that plugs into the television?
