The Ocean at the End of the Lane: A Novel: Neil Gaiman.
Really simple and dark contemporary fairy tale.

I enjoyed it, but not his best.

Found a Gaiman in a Little Library. Will give it a try but I dunno. I've got some kind of visceral reaction against his books. Weird since I really enjoy him on twitter. Gonna try.

Also found a proof copy of The Reluctant Fortune Teller by Keziah Frost in a Little Library. Am reading and enjoying it now. A bit cute but a nice break after some of the heavier books about Turkey and Persia I'd been reading.

@izzythepush,
I love her.

I've never actually read her written word, but I'm going to check out her other works.

I watched the movie "We've got to talk about Kevin" and I hadn't realized it was a book. I was really moved by the film, and c0uld really identify with the female lead (played by Tilda Swinton).

Same in "So Much for That" Shriver ruthlessly cuts through the bullshit of how we are "supposed" to behave in terrible/horrible life situations, both chronic and acute, and forces (I see it at let's you) see it through it through the eyes of the person living through it.

I especially love the characters Flicka and Glynis in So Much for That.

I'm reading an exciting new book "Finding Yourself in the Town of Geniuses" by Valentina Knurova. Delightful combination of non-fiction, fiction, fantasy and self-help.
Reading this book, you will go on an amazing journey through the world of geniuses. You will meet Professors from the University of geniuses, play magic cards with Fate, interview Salvador Dali, visit the “Change yourself” shop and the Square of complaints about life.
The author presents her thesis: We can all be geniuses in some aspect of life.

@ossobuco,
Given that Anthony Bourdain's name comes up in this thread most often when I do a site search, I'll drop this off here.

RIP
